Hello,

I just bought the hardware to make a gaming computer. However, when I put it all together, the machine turns on momentarily, and then turns off. I have tried to boot it up with just the processor and the motherboard, and it just does the same thing.

Since my power supply is a 750 watt psu, I do not think it is a lack of power. So, I have two questions:

1) How do I find out what is defective?

2) One thing I noticed was that the lever on the Z77 processor slot took a bit of force to secure it. Is this natural? When I installed the chip, I made sure to place the chip inside the door with the notches matching up to the chip.

If someone could help me, I would greatly appreciate it.

build:

ASUS P8Z77-VLK motherboard
ANTEC earthwatts 750 Watt power supply
Intel Ivy Bridge core i5 3570

Regards,

well one possiblity is to check the pins in the socket of the processor slot, could be damaged pin that shorting something out. other possibilit is you need to connect both power cords to the mobo the one near the cpu and the main one. also yes it is common to apply a little force to install it.

You mention a power cord jack near the cpu. It is an 8 port (2x4 holes) jack. Does there have to be something in there for the board to work? My power supply does not have anything that can hook up to that. Do I need a new mother board or power supply here?

Yes it does. Your PSU manual even shows how to.plug it in. It's not going to work if you don't.
