(New Build) Need Advice $1200 Gaming Rig

Working on a new build for gaming my budget is $1200(AUD), already have case and HDD.

What I need:
- Looking at getting Core i7-2600k
- Mother board(prefer something with decent spacing between PCIe slots)
- RAM
- PSU

Why do you want the i7-2600K? If you're only gaming, you're wasting ~$100 that could be better spent on other better components.

Could you link through the parts you have? Be a good idea so that peeps don't recommend parts that don't fit etc. Do you need a GPU?

GFX card = hd 6970 will upgrade when new ones arrive late this year or early next.

If the core i7 is a waste for for games which cpu would you recommend? also i play MMO's arnt they cpu intensive games?

Just buy a second one instead of a new released card. Anyway, it will be hard to get better results.

Just get the i5-2500K. Same socket, and basically the same CPU without Hyperthreading, which is A) useless in games, and B) where the extra $100 comes from.

I agree with the other remark about just adding a second GPU. Your 6970 will still perform fine, and adding a second will give you a good performance boost down the road.

listen to ricecooker the 2500k is the best deal going. I have it and it slams through everything. Put saved 100 dollars in the video card. IF you can wait a month or two hold out for the 7000 series video cards. They should be here in the fall.
I would just run the card I have.
memory 16 gigs of Corsair. If you want a ssd. I know there are many choises. I have had several and I now have an intel 320, its fast but not the fastest.. but its the most reliable.... I have rma two other name branded ssd.
for a data drive look not further that a WD black.

As far as SSDs go, the Crucial M4 is the best drive for the money right now. The 320 is a good drive too, but the M4 has had the fewest issues so far. OCZ's drives have had a decent number of issues with the controller that I wouldn't recommend anything but a solid second gen drive, which are slower than the current gen 3 drives.

As far as hard drives go, the best drive on the consumer market is the Samsung F3 (max 1TB). The WDs are somewhat of a gimmick because they use a SATA III controller but can't read at even the max SATA II speeds. The F3 has a higher platter density which gives is faster read speeds than the other drives.

Do you want to spend $1200 on top of what you have? All that will coast a lot less. With the cheaper PSU and Mobo from the list about $690 from PCCaseGear.
