Hello. This will be my first build from the ground up. I've had pre build desktops before and I have swapped out hardware (gpu's, ram, psu's, etc), but besides few hardware swaps im a noob.
I have most the hardware picked out. Done some research on these parts. Want to spend around $2000 more besides the stuff i already bought. Willing to go over $2000 if its worth it.
Please give me your advice on the build i have in mind.

- Approximate Purchase Date: Soon on everything but the GPU. I want to wait for is the graphics card. Im waiting on the GTX 680 release.

- Budget Range: $2000

- System Usage from Most to Least Important: Gaming, Graphics (photoshop CS5), some video editing, office, and net browsing.

- Parts Not Required: CPU, HHD, Keyboard, Mouse, External Speakers, GPU (because im waiting on the gtx 600 series)

- Preferred Website(s) for Parts: newegg, amazon, tiger direct

- Country: USA

- Parts Preferences: anything that is reliable and good quiality. With great performance.

- Overclocking: Maybe, but not much

- SLI or Crossfire: Yes. after i buy my gpu i may wait a while till i get another.

- Monitor Resolution: 1080p led

- Additional Comments: want a solid build with quality parts that will last me a few years. Top notch performance. Clean looking. Dont want to go full tower. will use a dual graphics cards in the future if need be.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I already have : i7 2700k, Hitachi 2tb hhd 7200 rpm 64mb cache sata 3, logitech g700 mouse, logitech g110 keyboard, and logitech z523 speakers.

These are the parts I have in mind...

- asus p8z68-v pro/gen3 motherboard
- corsair obsidian 650d case (will also order the mesh side panel for $15 from corsair. Gives the case side cooling.
- corsair 16 gb vengeance 1600 ram
- liteOn ihbs212-08 bluray writer
- corsair h100
- not sure what PSU to buy... corsair hx1050? AX1200?

was also planing on getting a 60gb ssd for windows and another 60gb ssd for the motherboard cache feature that z68's have.
Looking for SSD's with 500+ write and read speeds.

Any help or opinions will help. Thanks

I would get a good air cooler instead of the H100. Just how cool does your cpu really need to be for a good OC?
Air coolers are cheaper, quieter, and cool well. A $30 air cooler will do the job, but $60-$80 gets you a beast from noctua or prolimatech.

The Z68 cache is interesting, but I don't think it is great without a specialized environment.
If you go that route, look into the intel 311 slc series built for the job. They are expensive.
Best to research that capability thoroughly to see if it will be of benefit to you.

Better yet, just get a larger conventional ssd for both the os and the more important apps or data.
Do not be seduced by glowing synthetic...

The way you calculate isn't very accurate. Not to mention that 2 580s alone won't pull 500W and a complete system will pull something below 650W. If you're using some power calculator, they're not very accurate. Here is a real world testing proof

if your never sure just buy the seasonic x-1250 1250W 80PLUS Gold or the Corsair AX1200 1200W 80PLUS Gold.

nothings over kill there, just you spending cash on an epic power supply you will probably never max out but hey at least with that kind of head room you will have much more than enough stuff to put around and probably power up a Christmas tree LOL....

it's the same with the dough you have in your wallet you prefer to have a huge head room i suppose, as a 1200w psu doesn't really pull that much from the wall unless your system does pull that much at idle/full load

850watt for a power supply will be plenty. You can run Sli/xfire on a 750watt easily. The newer gen cards are running on lower power consumption anyways.

Do not skimp on Quality. Go for a Seasonic since you have a high budget. I'd buy a 850 platinum serious or along those lines.

Get an SSD (Samsung 830 or Crucial m4) at least 128gb.

If your going with the 650D I would buy the h100. The 650D is not a great "air" case. I prefer Air, but in a suitable case.

Awful advice. Only way you'd ever need a 1200watt is for trifire/quadfire and a ton of oc'ing. Least the quality is spot on.

That's why I'm going to buy the optional side mesh panel for it. That way i can install some side cooling.
But now I'm curious, what cases would you guys recommend?
Looking for a large mid tower. Nothing flashy but it has to look nice and sleek.
With usb 3.0 i/0.
I am kind of leaning to the 500r white as well. I know it has better air flow than the 650d but noisier. Also i hear you can't replace the build in fans to work with the fan controller because of the connection it uses. Some also say it feels cheap? I like the case though.
There are a few full tower cases i like but they are too big. Design wise i like Xigmatek Elysium ,Enermax fulmo gt, and that crazy expensive silverstone. I like the look of them.don't know if the are good function wise. If there are mid towers that look like that and have cool i/0.s I'm open for suggestions.
