New build - need help

Hi all first time poster here (though long-time reader).

I'm planning on buildig my first PC and I'm a bit stuck. I don't know if the parts I have planned are everything I need and I'm not sure their prices right now are ok.

CASE - COOLER MASTER HAF 932 Black Steel ATX - $142.77

CPU - Intel i7-2600K - $314.95

MOTHERBOARD - Gigabyte G1.Sniper $252.57 (after $50 mail-in rebate - I already bought this, looked like a good deal, is it?)

HDD - Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB - $59.99 (No need for extra for backup, already have a bunch of external HDDs)

RAM - G.Skill RipJaws X Series 1600MHz DDR3 12gb (3x4gb) - $214.49

GPU - EVGA GeForce GTX 580 DoubleShot Superclocked 1536 MB GDDR5 - $479.99

PSU - COOLER MASTER Silent Pro Gold Series RSA00-80GAD3-US 1000W ATX - $179.99

OPTICAL DRIVE - I haven't decided on this yet, any suggestions?

MONITOR - Samsung S24A350H 24" 1080p 2ms 1000:1 LED backlit LCD - $249.99

I have some spare keyboards and a mouse already so I can do without new ones for now. Anyway the total comes up to ~$2000, which honestly sounds a bit steep - and this is before any software (OS, etc).

So any suggestions how I can make this build more wallet-friendly without sacrificing too much performance? I plan on using this computer for some gaming (not a lot), editing pictures/videos (a lot), and watching movies.

Also I initially planned on purcasing these parts over the course of a few months, but then I realized there would then be no way for me to test them separately for any defects - any ideas?

Your motherboard is LGA1366 and will not fit a LGA1155 CPU like your selected I7 2600K. For your computer use description drop down to GTX560TI or HD6950 and 550-600watt PSU.

would the gtx 560ti be able to run bf3 when it come out on decent settings though?

i didn't even realize that, whoops. any suggestions? is the i7-960 the closest?

gtx 560 ti will be able to run bf3 on high settings at that resolution of your monitor, the Motherboard is Excellent, at that price is a no brainer, but getting that motherboard left you with little options on your cpu, that said this is the Cheapest Cpu compatible with your motherboard.

i7 at the same price, but less performance than the one you wanted.

Get the Best Single Gpu you can Afford Right Now. i Suggest you getting 570 Gtx
and also, just get 8gigs or ram, seems like overkill to get 12 right now, and you may have problems with space.

Since you already have the mobo, which is quite expensive at that.
Get the i7 960 as suggested, unless you have loads of cash to throw around. (unlikely) If you do then i7 990X is the only way to go.

The case is a good solid choice.

The hdd is good as well.

The pricing on the 3x4GB kit of memory seems to be quite hefty. You should be able to find a much much better price on a 3x4GB kit.
Somewhere around $100 is where it should be.

PSU: Now this depends on what you actually end up getting as the video solution.
Generally a quality PSU from Antec, Corsair, Seasonic or XFX would be the way to go.
650W will do fine for any single GPU single card solution.
750W for GTX590 & SLI/Crossfire up to GTX560Ti/6950.
850W for GTX570/6970 SLI/Crossfire
950W for GTX580 SLI

Corsair TX/HX/AX series is good.
Seasonic X-series.
XFX XXX/Black/Core series is good too.
Antec HCG series works good too.

Optical drive: Pretty much any DVD writer at about $20

GPU:
6950/GTX560Ti will run at 1920x1080 at most games at high settings
anything above that will let you turn on more eye candy.

Also grab an after market CPU cooler supporting the 1366 socket, the standard stuff that comes with the CPUs sucks in general.

The monitor is most likely a nice one.
