Want to build a new Rig with a motherboard that has all the bell's and whistles but poor on board sound but performs in the upper echelon of boards. Going to get the new Creative AE-9. Do a lot of Videos and Sound and also Game. Interested in using the new Software with the AE-9 and do not overclock. Current Rig is great but 1 kid took the 5 year old rig to college now the other kid is pissed and it's been 3 years since my last build. Time for a new one. I have a GTX 1070 in the current Rig and a GTX 970 sitting around. Should I swap or buy a new GTX 2070 is it that much of an upgrade? Really looking for another 5 years with this build as my current rig will go with the kid(2) to college and I always like to be current within 2 years. Thoughts?

Solution
its an Rtx 2070 super, nividia no longers sells the normal 2070.
a 2070 super is a BIG improvement on the 970, around 90% better not including the features it has
(dlss, rtx and better h.264 encoding.)
but its only around 25-35% better than the 1070..

this mostly depends on the monitor.
if you have a 1080p 60hz monitor, the 970 will be a great card and will get you 60 fps on every game.
but on a better monitor (4k, 2k 144hz, 1080p 144hz)
youll probably want the 2070.

also, sound cards are useless. just buy a dac and amp.
