i am going to build a computer for my 12 and 8yr that they can use for school work. I also want computer to be used for wife so she can manipulate photos/videos.

Any ideas on what to do for a build?

Also, my wife does NOT want a large case but rather a small one ....not the smallest there is but one that is just not really big.

If not intended for gaming, we can scrap the idea of a dedicated GPU. The built-in graphics on modern processors are capable of handling any sort of online web-based games your kids might play and streaming movies. Without the extra GPU, this sounds like a good build for a mini-itx. Do you have a budget in mind?

With no budget specified, I came up with this. The case did not list a price, but I went with that one for it's small size yet room for an optical drive if you wanted one.

But I agree with what others have mentioned, a laptop sounds like a good option for you.

thanks ....i am going to review your suggestions when i get home from work and then i may ask additional questions. one quick one though.........why a laptop vs build? wouldnt the build be better for the money?

The build would technically be value for money but the laptop has the firm factor advantage (guessing the wife would be happier with something that can be put out of the way in a carry bag Vs a fixed desktop) you don’t have to dedicate a space to it, it’s portable etc. You don’t have to invest in a monitor and you can take it out of the house!

Laptops have gotten quite powerful these days too. Nothing on a full fat desktop but the laptop I linked earlier (it’s in the UK so I dunno if that’s any good to you) has dedicated Vega 8 graphics.
