Hello fellas, so couple of days ago I gave my 4 year old pc (9700k,16gb RAM,MB,970 evo,2080 and psu) to my brother-in-law and now I'm without PC. Mainly I game AAA games on my 144hz 1440p LG monitor, no editing or coding etc,but for last years not so much and because of that we also bought 4k 120hz Sony tv (x90j) + switch (Nintendo) for couch gaming and family gatherings. My main goal is still to play on LG monitor, but wanna try also on TV (thus future proofing for 4k tv + maybe new monitor, dunno) All my builds always have been intel's latest gen cpu + nvidia gpu, but I haven't built for almost 5 years and now as I see things have kinda changed. My budget is something like 2k$ and I have to buy from amazon (no microcenter etc) I still have my pc case, cooler (dark rock pro 4) and couple of 4TB hdd's. What you guys recommend doing ? I saw that nvidia 4th series are upcoming and also intel and amd cpu's and all of this making me confused about new build. Should I also change my monitor or 1440p monitor + 4k TV combo is enough? Thanks in advance

Intel releases new CPU's on the 20th, I would wait for that now. The Nvidia 4080 isn't too far away if you wanted one of the those, I believe it will be priced a bit higher than the 3080 launch price at $899. The rest of the range though will likely take months to become available so it really depends on how desperate you are.

Your cooler is good but you will need a new bracket for LGA 1700.

I will suggest some thoughts, but not anything in particular hardware:
  • You want an SSD for most high end games now. They can be expensive, but a larger m.2 SSD will be nice and will perform better than a SATA III SSD. How big of an m.2 SSD can you afford?
  • You could still add other SATA HDDs for more storage.
  • I will suggest sticking to NVIDIA, but you don't need to go for the highest end GPU. The 3000 series is almost double the performance of the 2000 series for the same number scheme, e.g., a 3080 is probably double the performance of a 2080, and 3000 series is dropping in price these days. You could probably even drop back to a 3070 and get more performance. It also is not just about performance: New software and capabilities can depend on the generation of hardware, and so even if you had a 3000 series which is an exact match in performance to something in the 2000 series I would expect advantages for the drivers and capabilities of the 3000 series, while also consuming less power (producing less heat) at a given performance level.
  • I like the newest generation of AMD CPUs. Not necessarily the ones at the very top end which more or less require liquid cooling, but something close. A good GPU only helps if the CPU is able to feed data to it. And incidentally, due to noise, even if you don't need liquid cooling a simple AIO cooler is way quieter than fans with the same amount of cooling.

3080 12GB is about $200 cheaper for 95% the performance. And a 3090 can be had for $950-1000. Can't really recommend a 3080Ti over a 3090 these days.

If you will be using a TV like the LG OLED C units, the max refresh rate is 120hz.
And, that has to be via a HDMI 2.1 connection.(and ultra quality cable)
A 3000 series nvidia card can do that.

Otherwise for faster, you need to plan on a dp connection to a good monitor.

On the cpu side, I think the upcoming 13600K will be the go to gaming processor.

So I guess now is the time to wait for new cpu/gpu-s to stabilize market prices and also wait for some benchs and not buy anything before black friday ?

And also,raptor+ddr4 32gb+3080 will be optimal for 2-3 years ? But as always again I won't be able to change only cpu and will be in need to change whole system, correct ?

Yes, LGA1700 CPU will need a new motherboard and a good CPU cooler. You get to pick between DDR4 and DDR5. Probably go for something like DDR4 4000/4400 to make the most of it. Or go for low latency DDR5

3080 12GB is a pretty good deal at the moment. Doesn't look like the 4080 12GB is going to be too much faster. (Half the memory bandwidth, less CUDA cores and a little clock speed gain)

I think you would do well at 1440p gaming for at least 2-3 years.

Black Friday deals are hit or miss.
Often they are older gen stuff that retailers just want to get rid of.

Over time, most who upgrade do so with a new cpu and mb because the value is compelling.
On the cpu, buy what you think you need for 2-3 years or more.
If one upgrades in place on the same motherboard, you will be doing so with a processor that is old gen and likely not as effective as a cpu and mb swap.
