NEw Build Thoughts and sugestions

Hey Guys,

I am looking at building a new PC with the following specs;

Coolermaster Cosmos 2
Intel Core i7 3930k (Looking at overclocking to about 4.5)
Looking at either Thermaltake Water Extreme 2.0 or corsair H100i - Or an equivalent quiet air cooler (Suggestions)
16GB DDR3
Either a Gigabyte x79-UP4 or Rampage M/B (Thoughts here would be appreciated)
Either a Samsung or OCZ SSD 256GB (Thoughts here also appreciated)
Either a Thermaltake Toughpower 1200 or Corsair AX1200
Havent settled on a video card yet but suggestions would be appreciated.

This system will be used for Gaming, Video Encoding, Graphic Design and Pretty much anything else.

Your thoughts on this system would be greatly appreciated.

1000w is WAY overkill for one GPU. Get a PSU from Antec, XFX, Corsair, Seasonic. 700w would be plenty more than enough.

Water cooling isn't really necessary either. Just get a D14, it will handle all the cooling you will need.

The Cosmos II is a good case but it's ridiculously expensive. You could get a full tower for 1/2 the cost and it would handle the same functions.

As a side note I am in Australia and am looking to keep the build at around $2000.
I generally Upgrade/Build a new rig once every 2-4 years depending on PC relevance/performance and Price/Funds.

When I do I tend to get higher end gear to future proof/ensure the PC doesn't need upgrading for another 2-4 years. My current PC build was build late 2008 with a few minor upgrades along the way. More HDD etc.

18GBDDR3 1600RAM
Inferno 120GB SSD
Kingston 60GB SSD
12TB of internal storage
2 x GTX 480 SLI

You can definitely reuse your case, SSDs, and optical drives. I reuse components regularly.

thanks g-unit i would reuse the case but airflow seems to be a bit of an issue at the moment so looking at changing the case for that reason. pretty sure im sold on the 3930k and noctua D14 this system will also be running a few VM's just to throw that in there. wont need the 1tb as I already have 4 2tb barracudas and 4 1tb barracudas as well. Other than that seems like a solid recommendation. Out of curiosity can you get a gtx 670 running as fast as a 680 without too much trouble or increase in heat?

You don't even need to upgrade. What's your current GPU? If you're a professional at your work and seconds do make a difference in your work I'd say upgrade the CPU but I'd also upgrade it to a Core i7 980X and skip the whole new upgrade as it's nor worthy. And for your information, the famous guru3d.com are still benching most of the new technology on their X58 setup which is quite well powerful.

You can find lots of used i7 980X or even new for $500.

For a build of this caliber a single 670 is not going to be good enough. I would go for at least a 680 or 7970.

Hey guys also have a question if I over clock a 3770k and a 3930k both to either 4 or 4.5ghz would both perfom more or less the same?

And ilysami not a bad suggestion, I dont dispute that the system still runs pretty much anything fine but I always upgrade every 2-4 years as my M/B doesnt even have a usb 3 header on it had to use seperate pic 1x card for that and I also migrate my data to newer higher capacity driver and keep the old as backup drives so gives me some data security as well. And cant justify a $500 cpu upgrade when for $1000 or even $1500 I can upgrade the whole system =)

They perform similarly in games, but in multimedia tasks, 3930k FTW.
