I'm planning to put together a new PC, centered on gaming, coming from an I5 2500k 8gb ram and a HD6870. It's starting to lag behind so I feel the need for an upgrade, and the fact I can also give this current system to my partner. I was thinking of a i7-4790k or an i5-4690k with a GTX970. I have a budget of around £1000 and would like some opinions on a current setup. That budget is a "little" flexible and I can go over just a little. Thanks.
:)

You would see a huge jump in performance just by dropping a GTX 970 into your current system. The 4690k isn't a big upgrade over the 2500k, though.

Except for the video card, your current system is still very strong. Are you sure you want to build an entirely new rig?

Solution
Yeah i'd prefer to do a new one because of the hobbyist inside me and the fact I can give this current one with a GPU upgrade to my partner to game on (She only uses a laptop atm) Thankyou for those suggestions, the i7 is intriguing to me because i wonder how long it'll be until games can actually use it properly.

That's what I thought too, I'd probably only do a little light editing for silly youtube vids so it wont be much of an issue for me there, it is mainly for games alone and the fact "I just want a new one" heh. Thanks again :)

I went for this, before I purchase is this all good?
