New build, weird infrequent errors

My new build (windows 8.1) has been running good, but at least once a month I get some weird crash that forces me to restart. Usually it's a BSOD then afterwards the message "Reboot and Select Proper boot device". But this last time it just crapped out and brought up the message 'No operating system found'. Typically it takes a few tries for it to boot back to windows, unless I insert the installation media.

I'd really like to know what's causing this. I have tried reformatting before so it's not software related. Will be opening up my case today so if you have any suggestions please let me know.

Sounds like a HDD issue. I'd run HDD diagnostics to check it out.

i'll check it out, I'm only using one SSD for everything. Otherwise could it be inserted into the wrong SATA port, or something I did while connecting it?

It seems like it is losing the HDD. This could be a loose cable, some issue with the drive, or maybe(less likely)even the MB or sata port.

thanks. I got it open and suppose there's a possibility of a loose connection. I'll probably just replace the sata cable since I have an extra, and run that diagnostic. Hopefully that does it.
