Question New build will only boot with CPU latch opened

9600k with MSI B250 PCMATE mobo. Will only boot with CPU latch open or barely resting on CPU. Locked (allot of pressure) causes quick on and off. ??!!

Locked with quick on and off - possibly thermal shutdown or a short of some sort.

Did you use thermal paste?

Take it all apart, clean, review the installation instructions, and reassemble.

The 9600k is not compatible with a B250 motherboard. B250 boards only support 6th and 7th generation processors. The 9600k will only work with a 300 series chipset board. eg. Z390, Z370, H370, B360 or H310.

When you say "boot", do you mean actually boot into BIOS/Windows or just stay on?

As mentioned by others, 200-series motherboards aren't supposed to work with 9th-gen CPUs, only 6th and 7th.
