New Build won't post

First time builder. Cannot get the thing to post. Suspected MB, replaced with new one. Suspected RAM, tried new RAM, tested on friend's build, all good. Still no post. Must be CPU, replaced via RMA. Still nothing. I can get it to give the beeps when no RAM is installed, lights on MB work, fans working, tried "RAM roulette" of every permutation of RAM cards in different slots. Nothing. Last thing is to get the multimeter out and check the 4 + 4 CPU power, but I think the PSU is good. What the hell is going on? Is there something simple I am missing? Oh, yeah, have reset the BIOS, both by flashing the CMOS chip and removing the battery for a moment.

I have SSD and 1050 GPU but am trying to get it to post without connecting any of those components (and have tried with, but they are not integral to posting if I understand correctly).
I have no idea what to try next. Ideas? This is a gaming computer I building with my 12 year old son and we are getting pretty demoralized. Thanks, David

Simple enough your CPU isn't supported by that motherboard without a bios update. You need a skylake CPU to update the BIOS. So either buy a b250 if you don't plan to oc or z270 if you do board and all your issues will go away.

Thanks for the response. I am confused, though. The specs on the MB say it supports i7. What am I missing that is telling you it is not compatible? Don't get me wrong, I am not arguing, I just don't know what I don't know yet.

Is it the difference between Kaby Lake and Skylake? Makes sense, but where in the specs of he motherboards am I supposed to see this information? Keep in mind I am still learning all the nomenclature (and I don't know any redneck jokes).

The 1** chipset boards only natively support skylake CPUs the 2** series natively support kaby lake. You have a kaby lake cpu. And a 1** series board. In order to make your board work you'd need to install a Skylake CPU and update the BIOS. Much easier to just get another z270/b250 motherboard, unless you have a skylake CPU laying around or a friend with one.

Skylake are the 6*** series processors, kabylake are the 7*** processors, they are newer (not actually any better just clocked higher) but since they are newer the 1** series boards existed before they did therefore a bios update is necessary to support them. If you'll look on the processor support list for your motherboard you'll notice the 7700k will be a newer bios than any of the 6*** series processors listed.

I see it now. I had to go to Asus sight t see it, nothing on the newegg specs would have told me that. Thank you so much, confidence is high. Guess I'm getting a new (3rd) motherboard.
