I've searched and found an example or two of poor front panel wiring being the cause of the power and reset buttons on the front panel not working.

I had already updated my ASUS ROG MAXIMUS Z790 DARK HERO motherboard to the latest BIOS via the Flashback method and today turned everything on and prepared to install Windows 11 Pro only to find the power and reset buttons on the front of the case are not working. I proceeded to use the power button on the motherboard and loaded 11 Pro via USB.

That leaves the issue of the power button. I already returned and exchanged one Cooler Master HAF 700 EVO case to New Egg due to a manufacturing defect that would not allow me to install the power supply. The case was a pain to pack up and return but at least trying to install the power supply was my first step and nothing needed to be un-installed. The USB connections that I've tried on the front panel work. I haven't tried audio.

With my build essentially done other than installing the rest of my drives and cleaning up the cabling, returning, and exchanging would not be fun and will be a last resort. I'm hoping it is just a simple wiring issue on the front panel connector that plugs into the motherboard. What are some troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue? Anyone else HAF to deal with this? Thank you.

You should move forward with the RMA since you aid for a functional product not something that needs further tinkering. Out of curiosity, have you ruled out that perhaps the front panel connectors were wired the wrong order in the harness that plugs onto the motherboard front panel header?

I will look at my plug and see if at least that side of mine matches the picture you attached. Thanks.

I shorted the two motherboard header pins and the computer started up. Looks like it is the case front panel cable on the case somewhere. I'll check and compare my case front panel connector to the above picture tomorrow. Thanks.

My connector looks the same as the attached picture. Thanks.

Who has experience with Cooler Master support? From my searches they are unusually slow, taking a week or more to even reply to a support or RMA request and then weeks more to go through the process.

While I would like the manufacturer to simply send me a new cable, connector, front panel power switch/reset, and likely audio since it is on the same plastic mount, I am not confident that would happen. They make it difficult to contact, haven't replied to multiple contact attempt's, and calling never gets an answer and they don't take a message.

My best while inconvenient course of action is likely return the case to Newegg for a second time and get an exchange. The first case I bought had a defect and I couldn't install a power supply. At least that was the first thing I tried to install so packing up for return wasn't as big a project. I might even ask for a return and order a new one so I don't have to wait until the return is received before they send out a new one.

Of course this means I need to remove all the components, new fans, cabling, etc. and figure out how to box this monster up for return.

If I didn't have bad luck I wouldn't have any luck at all.
