Hello all!

My grandfather is opening up a pawn shop soon and he needs a computer that he wants me to build for him. I'd like some input on the components that would be good for his needs. The primary uses for his computer will be to keep up with transactions when he might buy or sell something. Also, if someone pawns something he will have to keep up with date, times, and amounts, etc. It's not very computationally heavy, but he still needs a business computer system capable of fulfilling his needs. He'll also probably be doing some emailing, web searching, and other general computer use.

Based on all of this, what build do you think would suit him best? Meaning, what components would be best for a computer for him.

Thank you all so much for your thought and consideration!

what you want is a desktop and a laptop. you want to put the laptop on a cart and have a label printer on it and a inventory program on it. ask him about your states pawn lawns and how many letters you need to send and there form-mat. the two biggest losses for pawns are no contact with the person that pawned an item. if the pawn shop in most states dont contact the person that pawed an item and then sells the item..the shop can be sued for the cost of the item and more. the other big lost that been shown on the online tv pawn shows is lost of inventory. (in side 5 finger discounts or old items that are lost or miss tagged over time. having a program that you can set an aging report is good so your grandfather will know when an item is...

At this level, you do not want to be uber cool and build one.

Dell Outlet, $350-$400, including OS.

Or you go to ebay and get second gen I5 sff system for about 100$ and even that would be more than good enough.

In starting up a whole new business, trying to save $200 on a shaky system from fleabay is a waste of time and money.
There are some places and ways to save money....that is not one of them.

Just giving options. These systems rarely throw any issues that are hardware related if you buy them from a seller that actually tests them.

(laser). one that an all in one unit for the office to take in faxes and office printing (wifi). you want a older biz class hp plugged into the pc by usb or ethernet. the smaller all in one have 1,000 page tonner. it fine for reports and light printing. the older work hp some had 20,000 or more pages per 100.00 toner cartridge. in real world he need two copies per sale. one for his records and one for the person selling or buyting. you also want to show him how to back up his pc/laptop. you want to have him use a good 3 party backup software for small biz. then use a ethernet backup device as first storage. when the shop is making money have him buy cloud storage. if there a fire or flood with cloud storage he can get his files anywhere. also have him every six moths or so back up to a usb stick and put the stick in a fire proof safe. also have him talk to sba person in town for grant/loans and how to write off pc and printers on his taxes for the pawn shop. one thing also to help him make sure the store return/pawn info on a few large posters and print outs. if there no return or 7 day return policy make sure it posted all over the store. a lot of small claims case are lost do to no signage or to small of signs.
