New computer; no performance increase

So i recently just upgraded both my cpu, my gpu, my ram, and i will soon be adding a terabyte hard drive. Im thinking its a compatibility issue but i need a second opinion.

I arguably have a powerful computer. Even my friend says that its better than his and he gets twice as many fps in games as i do. After upgrading the cpu and gpu i would think my fps would shoot through the roof or at the least become decent but even at low settings for most games, even ones less graphics intensive, im getting 30 or less. Its not really annoying but i would like an explaination.

Cpu: amd fx 6300 6 core 3.5 ghz
Graphics card: radeon r9 380
Motherboard: msi ms-7640
Ram: 16 gb hyperx fury
Hdd: 465 gb hard drive
Windows 10 pro 64 bit

actually when i put the new cpu in, i had to wipe the hard drive so i could flash the bios. i reinstalled windows 7 then upgraded to windows 10 shortly after that.

What components did you upgrade from? The FX-6300 is from 2012 and was kindof weak even then.

in terms of the cpu, i upgraded to that from a phenom ii x4 955. the graphics card was upgrade from an hd 5450 but that was a year ago. it was the first thing i upgraded i think

i dont know how and i didnt really feel like trying to make my computer melt so i kept away from overclocking

And an R9-380 is far, far more than 2x the performance of an HD5450. Probably more than 15x (it has 22.4X more stream processors for example) Your CPU on the other hand is probably capable of about 80% average what a modern Intel can do though you could dip below 60% in some titles.

yeah. after i installed windows 10 i made sure to update the drivers. and if youre implying i get an intel processor, ill have to get a whole new motherboard too. i dont think i can find an i5 in am3+

The FX CPUs actually show a regression in performance per clock in some cases when compared with Phenom II, and both your old and new CPU have similar clockspeeds. Your FX CPU has 2 more cores, but also has a module penalty when using all of them. It wasn't really an upgrade, and in some cases might actually have been a downgrade. This is probably why you're not seeing improved performance.

maybe i should have considered a prebuilt system lol. i guess ill have to grab a good i5 and a new motherboard
