New computer old monitor not working?

Ok I bought a computer from cyberpower pc and I plugged everything In but there is a problem with my monitor.

I have a 17" dell monitor from 05 that I was planning to use with the computer.
I plugged In the power cable and plugged it into the computer, but the screen does not show up.
No picture comes up, the only thing that lights up is the power button on the monitor(orange)
I tried another monitor(the one I am using on this computer that i am on now) but same problem.
The monitor works because I plugged it into this computer and it worked.

I did not install windows 7 or any drivers on my new pc because that would be impossible, please help me!

Do you know for sure that your new PC is working? Obviously 2 monitors did not show up anything, and one of them is definitely working! That points to the computer being at fault.

Does the monitor turn on when the PC turns on? Do you see your Motherboards logo or POST screen? or does the monitor stay off the entire time? If so, then most likely bad connection or bad monitor.

It also could be possible that when you load into windows, the resolution is unsupported by your monitor.

might want to check also that you are plugging the monitor into the video card and not the on-board video.

no the monitor does not turn on when the computer does, but it is always on if the surge protector is on. I plugged it into the video card slot and onboard video, I used 2 different cables.

just curious - pull the video card out - use onboard only. What happens?
