Hello there,
Just received my new computer yesterday, spec can be found here - https://www.dinopc.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=2395&title=new-gaming-build-project
Everything booted up fine and I had no issues at all, I then transferred some stuff from my old computer to this one via USB stick, there were only 3 items transfered (Spotify which I didn't load, Open office which I never loaded and the final item was Star wars: The old republic MMO)
This is where the trouble starts, after transferring over the game to my computer I decided to load it up and give the game a go on my new system. Before the game could ever load my computer screen went black and pretty much crashed.
I re-started the computer and constantly got an error with the monitor output. The error was along the lines of 'Cannot display this output, please revert to 1920x1080' which is what I have always used on this monitor. Multiple restarts would not change this error, not even entering the BIOS and resetting etc. This is the one thing I really do not want to come across again as its the problem and reason for this thread.
After an hour or so researching online I was told to enter safe mode to boot and change the resolution. Unfortunately with Windows 8 you cannot safe boot from the start, I was advised Shift and F8 but this did not work, so I managed to get around this by reinserting my windows disc and troubleshooting from there and putting it in safe mode, this worked and I got through to the desktop in the native 1080x760 or whatever it may be. From there I entered the advanced system setting and tried to set the computer back to normal mode so it would not boot in safe mode.
No matter what I tried it would keep booting in safe mode, eventually hours into the process at 1am I decided to just wipe the system and start from scratch the following morning, I have now reinstalled windows and all the drivers and my system seems to be working fine.
The problem I have is how do I stop this happening again, I am downloading SWTOR (the game) manually this time (10+hours of downloading) and really do not want to go through this whole ordeal again as I am sure it is not very good for the computer or me
Any recommendations or idea what happened and how to prevent this again?
Many thanks,
Alex
