New Core I7 Build

I have been looking forward to building a new computer for a long time. This will be my first time building one from scratch, so i wanted to run this by and make sure it is all kosher, and that i haven't made a major gaffe.

My price is sub $1400. This includes monitor and possibly speaker system.

Usage will be heavy gaming, music, internet, videos, and photoshop.

I plan to buy all at once from Newegg, within the next two weeks.

I will overclock to probably 3.4, since it seems crazy not to with this processor.



I am currently quite content with the price to parts ratio. I might consider getting a different optical drive, but I don't feel the need for a Blu-Ray drive just yet. Also, I haven't really researched Hard Drives too much. I can probably get a better deal on it, any suggestions?

Check out the i7 $1200 budget thread here. It will leave you about $200 for a montior.

I would get a different GPU. Look at the newer GTS 250 or maybe the HD 4850, those are both better for the money. Or maybe even a 4870, it would be the same price after rebeate: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121288

If you had any thoughts of going SLI later on with that case...forget them now. Also your screwing yourself by setting a budget then limiting all your shopping to newegg. You want to see what someone can do with a budget of $1,400 for a gaming rig that will hit 3.4 on the clock without a hitch ? Check it out....
