Consistent Performance: Very high sustained transfer rates enabled by expanded cache make it possible to capture and edit professional FullHD and 4K uncompressed video in real-time, as well as play PC games at the highest detail levels.

Last time I checked ssd / hard drive speed did not make my games look better.

I guess technically they are correct you do indeed need a storage device with your game installed to play games at the highest detail levels and this a storage device.

Seems a bit disingenuous.

The GPU controls how the game looks. You will get faster access to game levels with SSD though plus game loading, maps etc.

Will this be the one that knocks the 850 Evo off the pedestal? I hope so

It seems so. However, the performance differences betwen the XTI and the 850 EVO 500GB model are so close that they're basically equal. (Which is nice to see since corsair's previous SSDs have been pretty meh in the speed arena.)

With something like the ID Tech 5 game engine with adaptive-on-demand texture loading, the drive speed might play a role for the larger (and better looking) textures in regards to latency, how quickly texture detail can load before you notice.
