Recently my i7 8700k had died, and I was getting WATCHDOG_CLOCK errors left and right, so I contacted intel support and they provided me with a full refund.

I went to amazon and purchased a brand new i7 8700k, and when it arrived I replaced it in my system which I had not used in two weeks due to not having a CPU..

Every game I play is running at about half of the speeds, here is a comparison.

Black Ops 4: Before - 144-170 fps | After - 70-80fps

Fortnite: Before - 220-244 fps | After 100-120 fps

I have literally no idea why this is happening, but here are all my system specs..

Intel i7 8700k (Overclocked at 4.7)
ASUS GTX 1080
HyperX FURY DDR4 8GB @2133mhz
Samsung EVO 960 SSD 250gb
NZXT Kraken x62 AIO
ASUS Prime z370-P

If anyone knows what could potentially be wrong or what I could look at, please let me know as this is extremely frustrating.

Solution
There have been reports of fake 8700K processors being sold on amazon.
That is a possibility.

Your 8700K should have had a 3 year warranty from Intel, why did they not send you a replacement which is what they usually do?

The temperatures are completely fine, that's what I thought the problem was as it makes no sense why a brand new CPU would affect my performances, but they're completely fine.

Have you tested without overclocking? Have you turned off X.M.P.? Have you updated and properly configured the BIOS? Did you install the intel chipset drivers?
