I want to upgrade my stock fan to something better. I'm not really looking at water cooling, so I was thinking something like a CM Hyper 212, what would I need to do to change fans over?

Solution
55C is a very cool temperature for an Intel CPU to be honest and it probably won't do you much to upgrade. Might be a little quieter.

if you want to upgrade your cpu cooler, get a hyper 212 evo. it is simply the best air-cooling solution in the market as of now. you can even overclock pretty decently with that cooler if you want to.

You'd be right if this was 2012. Go with a Cryorig H7, OP.
But why would you want/need to "change fans over"? Do you mean replacing the cooler by that? If so, all you need is teh new cooler, some cloth and some isopropyl alcohol to wipe the old thermal paste from the CPU.

I guess the question is a little vague. What do you mean "by change fans over"?

CM 212 is a decent heatsink, but it is quite tall and doesn't fit in all cases. Changing out a CPU fan is as simple as removing the old one, cleaning the CPU heat spreader with a non-abrasive and lint-free material and some rubbing alcohol. (Coffee filters are popular, cotton swabs, lens cleaners)

Follow the instruction guide for the new cooler. In the case of the Hyper Evo 212 you might want to look to YouTube. The included manual is a bit vague.

Then you just plug in the fan wires to the CPU fan header.

Thanks for that. Yes sorry it was a little vague, I'm running the stock intel cpu cooler at the moment, I've never seen it go past 55 Celsius whilst gaming on BF4, GTA 5 etc but I'd like something to keep it cooler. What I meant by change fans over was "What is the procedure for changing over a stock CPU cooler to an upgraded CPU cooler?". Thank you for advising me. I'll order the new heat sink tonight.

100% behind this. Only upgrade to an aftermarket cooler if you find the stock one too noisy.
And if you are on Intel anything under 80 is no worries whatsoever with a preference of not going much over 70.
Substract 10 for AMD.
