Hello,

I've had previously posted about an issue with my PC but because I couldn't figure out what's wrong with it I ordered new parts. Specifically Mobo and CPU. After swapping out the parts I don't get much response from the PC. The screen is black, wont even display BIOS start up screen.

CPU LED on motherboard is constantly on and the DRAM LED is flashing. I'm not sure what the problem is. I've had ongoing issues with this computer and at this point I'm clueless as it's something I've never experienced in my life.

I've tried launching the PC with one RAM stick but this still happens. If anyone more experienced could help out I would greatly appreciate it. 🙁

Mobo: ASRock B650 Livemixer ||| PREVIOUS MOBO -> ASUS TUF GAMING B650-PLUS WIFI
GPU: 7900 XT
CPU: Ryzen 7800X3D
RAM: Crucial 16GB DDR5-4800 (two sticks) = 32GB
PSU: RM850X 80 PLUS ATX Fully Modular PSU ||| Old PSU -> Thermaltake 850W |||

use bios flashback to update the bios to the latest version

which thermaltake 850w model is it exactly?
all power connectors plugged in? into motherboard, gpu and power supply as well?
Hi, I will update the BIOS and let you know how it goes.

The connectors are all plugged in. I have unplugged the GPU completely but the problem is still ongoing.

This is the exact PSU I bought: https://www.ebuyer.com/1543309-ther...s&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=hotukdeals

Yes but I'm also using extension cables that I bought off Amazon because the cables weren't reaching the CPU and ATX power slots. Could that be a potential issue?

I did some research online before purchasing them and people said it shouldn't be a problem but I'm very clueless when it comes to stuff like that.

Those are the cable extensions I've bought off Amazon (https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B089GF9RV4?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_product_details)

Cable extensions: could be a product qualtiy (or lack thereof) problem.

Looking back - did any cables come with that Thermaltake SFX850 PSU?

Not shown or mentioned in the Post #3 link to ebuyer.

Something seems amiss.....

Late note regarding "RAM: Crucial 16GB DDR5-4800 (two sticks)". Is that a 2 x 8GB matched RAM kit?

I will try running the PC tomorrow without the cable extensions and see how it goes.

The PSU came with all the cables required to power the computer they were just too short. I also have some spare 450W, 12 pin power connector cable that I have not seen before in my previous PC builds but I'm not sure what it's for. I can take a picture of it later if needed.

Sorry, typo - RAM is 2x16GB and it is indeed matched RAM kit,

I would not use the spare "450W" cables from another modular PSU.

Not because of the wattage or length per se. The concern being some proprietary connection by the source brand.

FYI:

https://linustechtips.com/topic/146...cables aren't always,for the new power supply.

You can easily find other similar links.

Plus the cables themselves being too short is in itself, to me anyway, a sign of cost cutting - at best. It would almost seem that the manufacturer did not provide any cable information (including lengths) for some reason....

Is it still possible to RMA that PSU? If so, do so.

The PSU is a "critical component" and not a component to be skimped on.

Start here:

https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/best-psus,4229.html

Try to make some measurements regarding the required PSU cable lengths.

Know what lengths are needed beforehand. Look for that information.

Hopefully there will be other posted ideas and suggestions.

I will refund the PSU. I bought Corsair RM850X 80 PLUS ATX Fully Modular PSU, hopefully swapping out the power supply will fix the issue. 🙁

The PSU has two separated ATX main power connectors besides the 8pin ATX12V one. Are both ATX connectors plugged into the PSU (one 10pin and one 18pin)
I double checked and yes, they are. I'm going to disconnect the power supply tomorrow and return it. Hopefully the new power supply will fix the issue, fingers crossed. :homer:

Well... I connected the new PSU. To my surprise there was no change and the CPU LED is still on and DRAM LED is flashing.

I've reseated RAM, tried running one stick again, cleared CMOS, checked if all the power cables are connected properly and NOTHING. I think I'm going to buy new RAM and see what happens because at this point I'm completely lost. This makes me want to sell all my computer components and never come back to PCs in general. So frustrating.

I tried to do a BIOS flashback again and I;ve noticed that the green light stays solid after the blinking process (which took like 5 sec). Is that normal?

and I just broke the mobo pins by trying to reseat the CPU again. I'm the most unluckiest person ever. I'm throwing this computer out the window
