Hey!

I got some money recently and I want to upgrade something. I have a 6700k and a gtx 1080 and I play on a 1080p 144hz benq monitor.

I was wondering if it would be better for me to upgrade to a 9700k or a RTX 2080? Will my 6700k limit the 2080 in someway? I've looked at the benchmarks and the 2080 is usually 20-50 fps quicker but thats with a 8700k or 9900k cpu.

If you are not hitting 144 FPS, check your usage with Riva Tuner if its full on CPU get a new processor if GPU is full get a new GPU. But don't bother if you are wanting 200 FPS on your 144Hz monitor as its wasted (except on CS:GO), if you're looking for a quick boost have you tried overclocking? Another thing to think about is trade value how much will your 1080 sell for and how much is a new 2080?

So I know that a 2080 is probably overkill for 1080p gaming but I struggle to hit 144 fps in some titles and have to turn some stuff down. The only games I really noticed high CPU usage like 90-100% is battlefield V and like The Division 2 when I tried the beta.
I guess my point is that I am just itching to upgrade something and I want to get whatever will give me the best performance / future proof my PC for around 1000$ CAD which the 2080 and 9900k + mobo cost.

Well my 1080 sells for about 475-525$ on local classified websites like craigslist and Kijiji. If I buy a GPU I was going to sell mine and then go buy a 2080 and pay the other 400-500$ I would need out of pocket. If I upgrade my CPU and Motherboard I guess I could try and sell my Z-170 Mobo and 6700k but I dunno what that is worth
