Im sure this has been asked already but when i finally get a new cpu can i use my old win7 disk to install os and if i do will i still be able to upgrade it to win10 like i already have. Or will i need to buy a new os?

Also i was gonna get ssd for os, would 120gb ssd be fine or would i be better with more and do i run anything else through it or stick to just running os and having hdd for games and media stuff?

Thank you in advance for the help.

Solution
think if its only the cpu you will be ok--if it was motherboard probably wouldnt be

240/256gb would be better performance/price wise

can put games on ssd if you want especially games with long loading times they will benefit from the ssd
Hi and welcome to Tom's forum.

You can use the same Win7 disk to install the OS and activate without problems. Regarding the SSD, 120GB is more that enough for OS and programs but for games I would suggest go with HDD or get another SSD for that, games like BF4 use almost 30-40GB will all DLCs.

On the SSD side of things, I agree with the rest, put your games on a separate HDD or if you can afford it, put it on a second SSD, I did this with my games and I am very happy with the results

By the way Saint19, Battlefield 4 is now 60GB (with all DLC's) big!! Crazy... Also, games like The Division is coming, the Open Beta was 25GB big

Hi thank you for all your answers. I will be upgrading cpu and mobo so hopefully i will be fine, might have to contact microsoft about it :l.
And thank you for the help on ssd, ive got two 1tb hdd so ill add ssd and keep 1tb for games and second tb for backup i think.

Exactly, 60GB of BF4 now if you have BF3 full, add another 40GB I think...do not remember well. Those are the games that I have in SSD for now, Th Crew adds another 27GB to you games library...

Right now my rig have the following storage configuration:

1) 256GB SSD for OS and Programs.
2) 256GB SSD for BF4, BF3 and BC2 games. Just the games that I play mostly and and "slow" to load in HDD
3) 500GB for Steam games
3) 500GB for Files
4) 1TB for the rest of steam games

yep both cpu and motherboard you will probably have to go through the automated telephone to re-register your windows to the new hardware
