New CPU or GPU?

I play games like CSGO and TF2 competetively, and lately in tense situations my frames are going down in both these games to the 60 - 90 range. I'm not sure if these games are more CPU or GPU heavy but I really need the boost to take advantage of my 120hz monitor. (I run these games on lowest settings, resolution does not affect frames).

Specs:
GTX 550 ti GPU
AMD fx 6100 3.3ghz CPU
ASUS m5a97 motherboard

this is my first time posting so im not sure if i should have put this in a different category, but any info on which one i should upgrade would be great.

I'm not sure if these games are more GPU or CPU reliant but it's not a bad time to be buying a new VGA card right now. The price/performance is great for gamers. Though the new AMD models have gone into a little bit of a shortage and people rush to build mining machines so their prices are up.

well both technically need a upgrade the gpu is worst for ware but the bulldozer is no better due to the poor design of bulldozer its weaker the the phenoms only viresha fixed this issue

fx 6300 lower power newer version of the fx 6100

fx 8320 are considered better when occed

also whats your power supply

600w i recomend incase you dont have 1 thats powerful enough

hmmm well I wasnt sure, so I opened up my case to look for a sticker, there was none, it says "dxx enermax galaxy". How can I find out the w? And do you think the 6300 would be much of a boost from my 6100?

Those games are more gpu reliant (3000 hours on css myself 😛). And your gpu is by far your bottleneck (its your worst component out of tose two). If you are low on budjet and you need to choose one, well, go for the new gpu. But your motherboard is compatible up to the FX 8350 processors, so you wont need to buy a new motherboard if you want to upgrade your cpu aswell.

dxx galaxy is a fairly old model but still good depending on the power your model is

info is usually on sticker

usually its written on the sticker of that psu
e.g
egx ( number) followed by ewl

it will also say total power

personally fx 6300 does do better and fx8320 is better for heavy cpu games like bf4

but your gpu is the worst part of your set up by far

Is this the one youre talking about? this isnt expensive i may be able to afford a new gpu as well :)

yes fx 8320 is considerably less then the 8350 i recomend the 8320 due to the 8320 to me is just a downclocked 8350 draw backs of the 8 cores is power consumption is quite high
