I've just upgraded from a Pentium G4560 to an i5 6500, however, my PC won't boot anymore. It loads the BIOS, which does register the CPU is there, just fine. If I don't go into the BIOS though, it says 'Preparing Automatic Repair', and then boots into windows automatic repair, saying 'Your PC did not start correctly'. Any ideas why? If you need any more info just ask

Specs:
G4560/i5 6500
MSI B250M PRO-VD
GTX 1050
8GB Crucial DDR4

Solution
Your mobo is already supported 6th and 7th gen CPU (G4560 is 7th gen, i5 6500 is 6th gen). Technically, you don't need to update the bios at all since you go from G4560 to i5 6500. Latest bios is to update some compatibility and security vulnerabilities.

  1. Try to boot up just 1 drive with your window on it (disconnect all other drives from computer).
  2. If it does not work, see if someone else gives better recommendation.
  3. Worst case, you have to install fresh window.
