New Curved Monitor headphone jack very weak sound.

I have my Dell Laptop connected HDMI to my new Samsung 32" Monitor and the sound coming from the monitor jack is terrible. I can disconnect HDMI and 3.5 plug directly to laptop and my Altec Lansings sing like songbirds. My speakers won't play from my laptop with the monitor connected via HDMI. My HDMI cord is 25', could this be the problem with the sound coming from behind the monitor 3,5mm port?

First thing to check is your laptop, make sure the audio output device is set to your monitor, and not your speaker output.

Then check your monitor settings in the menu, on samsung there are 2 modes for HDMI inputs under "PC/AV settings", make sure they are on "AV" since you will have audio + video on the HDMI input.
