Question New display : can't see POST, BIOS, boot menu, ... but works once booted in Windows ?

Hello,

I have just installed a new panel (the InnoLux N156HHE-GA1 Rev. C1) on my ThinkPad P50 and it works well, the image quality is good, the 120 Hz is working even without CRU, but there is a rather big issue : it only works once Windows is booted up.

This means that I cannot see the BIOS or anything else, I don't even see the Lenovo logo during the booting procedure.

I also don't see the advanced start menu... I basically can't see anything that isn't ran by the OS.

I reverted to the original panel to see if there were some options in the BIOS, but I couldn't find any.

Also, plugging in an external monitor doesn't help at all.

Does anyone have any idea what could be wrong ?

Thanks in advance !

My uninformed thoughts would be that the hardware ID is making the machine think it's hooked to an external monitor. Actually surprised that you aren't getting a 'disconnected screen' warning.
It works fine with other panels so the issue has to be related to this panel, I first thought about the EDID data in the monitor but I'm not sure where to look

I may not be understanding.

You replaced the stock, built in display with this new InnoLux model?
Assumedly for the higher frame rate....
You mention in your above post that other external monitors also don't show the Splash/Post/BIOS screen.

Not sure what you mean by "works fine with other panels" aspect. I am confused.

Yes, originally the plan was to replace the stock with this InnoLux model for the higher framerate and better colours.

When I plug an external monitor via HDMI and try to access BIOS, it's also black.

I happen to have 1 more 120 Hz Chi Mei panel that needs to be returned soon, and with this one I can see POST fine, this is why I said "works fine with other panels"
