Hey, im am building a new custom pc and it would be great to get some advice on the parts

BUDGET: around $1500

APPROXIMATE PURCHASE DATE: within a month

SYSTEM USAGE FROM MOST TO LEAST IMPORTANT: gaming, internet surfing, movies/TV, maye some video editing

PARTS NOT REQUIRED: Monitor, keyboard, mouse, speakers

I had been planning on going i7 with my next build, but it was just leaked that Intel is planning on EOL-ing that socket next year. There's no word yet on when AM3 is going EOL, but at this point, I think it's safe to assume that it will at least be 2012, maybe 2013.

It would be great to know more about this and if its true, if so, suggestions about AMD and what mobo, etc. would be great
especially since there cheaper and then i might be able to get a better Graphics Card for eg. ATI HD5850 or 5870 instead

any suggestions about my build will be greatly appreciated

If you're primarily gaming, you would be better off going with either an AM3 build or a P55 build. Gaming doesn't benefit from hyperthreading, so there's little point in spending the extra $200-300 on cpu/mobo/ram for an i7 build if you're not rendering/editing/whatever. Spend it on the GPU instead.

It's true that both current Intel sockets are going away within the next year, while AM3's EOL hasn't been announced yet. However, if you don't plan on upgrading your processor within the next few years, it doesn't really matter.

The above build is pretty good, though rather than a 1090T X6, I'd suggest going with a Phenom II X4 955, as the additional 2 cores aren't used by modern games. With that savings (should be about $150 or so), you should be close to affording a 5870, which will max out most games at 1920x1080. There's also little need to go with 8 GB of RAM for your purposes, though it wouldn't hurt anything.

I googled "crossfire 5830" and found a decent review from tweaktown.

Tweaktown says:

Two HD 5830s are going to set you back $479.98. Compared to the HD 5870 this setup is slightly more expensive as the HD 5870 retails for around $399.99 to $439.99. So, the question we need to answer is; whether or not it’s worth spending an extra $40 - $55 buying a HD 5830 CF setup over a single HD 5870? - In a word, yes. For slightly more money you're getting slightly more performance at the highest resolution.

I'd disagree with the above, I'm not sure it's worth the extra money (apparently $AUS 75) for the performance gains they saw. But, again, it's up to whether or not you want to start with CrossFire or use it as an upgrade path for later.

all this info is great and i think goin with the AMD will be a better idea, and plus just for your info it would be better for me to get all the parts from the same retail/online shop because i need a tax invoice for a whole computer because over here (Australia) we have an educational rebate. i can claim upto $1500 and get $750 back because you tell them that its for educational purposes
