new graphics card?

i have recently been playing FFXIV and the last few times my pc has crashed. I think my graphics are may be on its way out as sometimes when i boot up the card isnt recognised. what i would would like to know is what would be a suitable upgrade. my system set up is as follows. If i have left any information out apologies


Intel Core i5-3570K 3.4GHz Quad-Core
ASRock Z77 Extreme4 ATX LGA1155
Corsair Vengeance 8GB
Gigabyte Radeon HD 7970 GHz Edition 3GB

I'd probably go with any graphics card on the market save for the very top end; depending on budget and power supply (need make and model #).

also, are nvidia any better than AMD, assuming nvidias are compatible?

Any (recent) card is going to be compatible with your system. Whether to get an AMD or NVidia card, I would say, depends on your budget. The OCZ power supply while not the greatest, should handle all but the top end cards. I would probably recommend something like the GTX 960 and call it a day. Decent card. Not too power hungry, get some great results at medium to high settings.
