New GTX 1080 with random shutdowns.

As you can guess by the title, I am experiencing random complete shutdowns, no warning just in the blink of an eye the pc is off. This only started after I installed my new Asus RoG Geforce GTX 1080 Strix 8gb graphics card. I previously had a EVGA Geforce GTX 560 TI which still works fine but it's pretty out dated. I have uninstalled everything Nvidia in hopes of fixing this to no relief. I disabled the in game recording software that is part of it. I noticed that when I dropped the settings for WoW from ultra (10) to slightly above medium (7) it stopped randomly cutting off. During Skyrim SE it never did anything with shadowplay active so I'm a little hazy on that but on Rust I have had it on Beautiful settings (2nd best/recommended) and 2nd worse (Fast) and it shuts down around 5 minutes in on both. I hope someone can help me with this one because I'm stumped

PC specs:
-Asus ROG GeForce GTX 1080 Strix 8gb
-AMD FX-6300 (6 core)
-Asus M5A97 LE R2.0
-8gb RAM
-EVGA 100-N1-0750-L1 750W ATX12V / EPS12V Power Supply

Update: just tried Rust on the lowest setting (potato, literally what it is called) and within 5 minutes, completely off in the blink of an eye.

How is your CPU and GPU temps while playing?

It sound like a PSU problem. How old is the PSU? That seem like a pretty low-end psu. Is it possible for you to test the GPU with another pc or psu?

I got the PSU in January of this year. Sadly this is my only PSU atm, I can always order in a new part if needed and this is my only functioning PC. From what I can tell after the fact, the card is warm but not hot, the cpu is covered by an AIO watercooler, but feeling around and beneath it a bit there's not much really any heat I just find it behaving odd with one game but not the other, like I went a whole round of Deepwind Dunk in World of Warcraft, no problems, only running on 5-7 settings on a 1-10 scale (5 mainly for bgs bc large groups still manage to lag it bad somehow )

oh, the psu is still pretty new. Did you check if its fan is running? Because by the sound of it, pc shuts off completely on high load (eg higher settings) which is why I suspect the PSU.

Still running, for safety measure I even default set the fans of the GPU to spin even if not needed to eliminate a heat issue there which would probably blue screen rather than shut off.

oh the daisy chain/piggy tails one? Imo shoudnt be a problem. I used that with mine before my custom sleeve cables came and it worked properly. But if u have 2 separate cables, its worth a try.

Also I meant the PSU fans, not the cpu/gpu.

I know, all fans are working, and yeah I think lol kinda but the secondary 6+2 comes straight off the connector for the first one (example: https://imgur.com/a/7XxSO) I was thinking it might be pulling too much on the 8 that it cant funnel off to the 6. It only has that one cable for the PCIe sadly :\

Well at this point i'm running out of ideas and no one else seem to be replying. Have you tried re-seating the GPU (take it out and put it back in)? Which country are you from? Are there any shop that you could buy a PSU and return if you don't want it/change of mind? Because if that is possible, maybe you could try buying a quality PSU and try it out. I think around 650w should be good for gtx 1080, look for either tier 1 or 2 from this list. Also are you planning on doing a platform upgrade? Looking at that fx-6300 with a 1080 bothers me a bit haha

best we have is a Best Buy and its selection isnt great, mostly PNY crap or weak power supplies like in the 400w ish range. I do plan to upgrade in the future, this was my first step in a full upgrade. I did reseat it, I forgot to remove the plastic on the cover but luckily it never got hot enough for that to be an issue and came off with ease and no problem areas. I guess I'm gonna look into a new PSU to upgrade anyways, if you have any reccomendations by all means :D I might swap to an intel setup but I'm looking 750-850w just in case

I personally only have used corsair PSUs so I guess for you I would recommend the RM750x or RM750i. Not sure about other brands but look up the review if you're curious. I'm currently using the RM750i myself but if you dont need the monitoring of the PSU via corsair link, the "x" version is cheaper and of same quality. They come with 2 piggy tail PCIE power cables. But if they're expensive you could make new post under components section and ask for recommendations. They usually provide links to the website/store to buy them anyways.

Oddly enough I was looking at those exact CPUs lol! just a bit woried bc offhand I cant recall what all connectors I have in use that i'd need to keep available, I might just power down and double check.

The new PSU should have all the connectors you need, unless you need more than usual then check here. Also, the RM750i/x are modular as well so you don't have to plug in the ones you don't need.

Yeah good idea, I think you want to monitor the +12v in the corsair link (for cpu/gpu). Also, I think it need a USB 2.0 header on your mobo to connect with PSU so make sure u got one available.
