new hard drive failing to format

i just bought a new harddrive WD Blue 1tb, i am trying to use it as a data drive in windows 7. i am in disk management i can see the drive it reads disk 1 931.51GB Unallocated. i right click and select new simple volume go through the menus under status it reads formatting after about 3 minutes i get an error that says the format did not complete successfully.

I would download Seatools for Windows, and have it check the disk and see if it got damaged in shipping (Long generic test, this will take a few hours). If so you should RMA is to Western Digital or the seller. That would be my first step.

Hi

Go to WD website and get WD data lifeguard ( windows version)
Run test on new hard drive
If Windows format failed may be faulty hard drive

Both of those tooks will work, Seatools and WD Lifeguard. I completely forgot about lifeguard since I have always used Seatools for every drive no matter the brand.
