New hardware for Oculus Rift

Hi all

I'm trying to figure out if it's time for me to buy a new gaming pc to give me a optimal VR experience as I'm getting a Oculus Rift Consumer version in May. I ran the Oculus setup check software and it tells me that my graphic card is not VR ready. So my questions is: Can I gain most of the full experience by upgrading my current setup somehow, or do I have to buy an entirely new gaming pc?

My current setup:
Motherboard: ASUS Z87-DELUXE
Graphic Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 690 4GB GDDR5
SDD: Samsung 840 Pro Series MZ-7PD256
CPU: Intel Core i7-4770K Haswell

Sounds great and thanks for your reply. But compared to my current GPU, is a upgrade to the GTX 970 or 980 worth it? And are they compliant with my current mobo?

a 690 is basically two 2gb gtx 680's

while in optimal conditions the 690 is faster, it's lack or vram really hurts for oculus use

you really need 4gb MINIMUM


a gtx 970 would give a much better experience



your motherboard has a pcie slot, if you have a good enough power supply and a big enough pc case that is all that matters

Sorry for my confusion. But I have some more questions then:
- My specs state that I already have 4GB ram on the GTX 690 card? Is this not valid?
- What makes the 970 better than the 980? I thought it was the other way around. you do not have 4gb on a 690


you have 2gb + 2gb

sli does not add up vram


a 980 is better than a gtx 970, BUT the difference in performance is not worth the extra price



a gtx 980 ti IS worth the price and it is a lot better than a gtx 970 or a 980
