Hi folks,

Our company is building a new PC for me. I will use it for heavy Video Editing/VFX. It needs to be able to handle footage of Red/Arri etc. I need the PC to be future proof for at least 5 years. Need your
feedback/suggestions on the build.
Softwares mostly used - Adobe Suite, DaVinci Resolve, FCPX, Cinema 4D and lots of plugins. Occasional gaming. I also plan to Hackintosh the PC in the near future.
Thanks in advance.

Using this proposed system as a hackintosh should not be a factor. If that is what you need, then have your company buy you a more suitable Mac Pro.

Do you have a budget to work within for your rig? Also, 5 years is a long time in tech. There is no such thing as future-proofing anything for that long.

Hi COLGeek,

We currently use Adobe Premiere pro, Hackintosh is desirable but not necessary. As for the budget, It's already stretched as far as possible. Even if it won't be future proof for everything, I just need it to handle 8K 60Fps.
I'm in India, where brand options are not plenty, hence have gone with Corsair for Case, Cooler, PSU & RAM.
Apologies for starting a new thread accidentally. Thanks for your response.

My budget in INR is 450000 for the PC and Monitors. I saw Threadripper 1950x benchmarks on Premiere pro, i9 chips are faster in that regard. As for RAM, I thought of upgrading to 128GB in sometime.

When I interned at a local firm, for their marketing department, they did 8k editing too. What I learned was that most of their PC's used the 18 core processor from Intel and a 1080 or so.

Consider this:
Intel -

Slightly over, but 18 core i9 processor and a 1080Ti as well as 128 gigs of RAM. 500 GB SSD and 6 TB HDD. 1440p monitor and quality PSU.

16 core processor Threadripper processor. 128 gigs of RAM. Larger 1440p monitor. Rest all is same.

The first build will go way over budget. Prices shown on PC Partpicker for majority of components are wrong. Please check the Amazon.in links to check correct price.

The second build will come near to budget but it is no good as OP said i7-7940X over-performs thread-ripper.

Here is the list:

CPU: Intel i9-7940X (₹1,14,500)
CPU Cooler: Corsair H115i Pro (₹12,500)
Motherboard: Gigabyte X299 UD4 Pro (₹20,800)
Memory: G.Skill RipjawsV DDR4-3000 32GB(4 x 8GB) (₹26,000) x 2
GPU: Gigabyte AORUS GeForce GTX 1080 Ti 11GB (₹79,500)
SSD: SAMSUNG 860 EVO 1TB (₹22,200)
Case: Corsair Obsidian Series 450D (₹8,900)
PSU: Corsair RM850x (₹11,500)
Monitor: DELL 4K U2718Q UltraSharp (₹57,300)
Monitor: Lenovo 1440p L27q-20 (₹41,700) x 2

Total: ₹4,62,000

Little bit over budget but is worth it. 4K Professional Monitor as main display will help you get better results.
