New install help

I just installed windows xp on my computer(ik its old) and i go to internet explorer and when i try to go to anything and it wont let me. it says check my internet connection. I downloaded firefox but it says 'The procedure entry point EncodePointer could not be located in the dynamic link library KERNEL32.dll." i have no idea whats wrong

This article says that you need a windows service pack. Hope that helps.

Well i changed it form service pack 1 to 3 then i changed it back to 1 and its still saying that

You need to be on sp2 or sp3, but I'm not sure why it would say that if you were on sp3.

I tried all 3 service packs and it still says the same thing
