This may sound silly, but I've heard that SP2 is the best of all. In my last installation i had real prblems with 3D apps and games hanging, that was parently a very recongnised problem and there was a patch for it i installe dthe patch and did the reg modifications in case and I also installed SP4 (15Mb home version). Could this have been caused by My ATI radeon 8500 and VIA KT 4 mobo, aparently there are problems between using an Athlon XP processor (yep that's me) a VIA chipset (lucky me again) and Win 2k (what are the chances :). So if anyone know much about this problem and can advise a good SP to download. Or would it just bea easier to install ME on another partition and use 2K for normal work? Thanks all

""Or would it just bea easier to install ME on another partition and use 2K for normal work?"" - most used option (gives you happiness of both worlds: gaming and working).

as far as SPs go, 2 is the most bestest harmlessest one in my experience.

..this is very useful and helpful place for information...

Yep! because SP3 and SP4 both have those updates that will let microsoft get more money from us.

I did have SP 3 for a very long time right until SP4 came out (about 2 years) and the problems were definately there. My mobo is a KT4 ultra, so I don't quite think it's time change it just yet :) Especially on a short budget like a college student's.

Your first problem is the VIA chipset. :p

And if you don't want 2000 Pro, go with WIN98SE, WINME is just a bastard offspring from M$ that should have stayed on their cutting room floor.

That my opinion anyways....

Spec:
Intel P4 2.4B
MSI 645E Max-U Mobo
512MB DDR333
GF3 ti200 64MB
SB Live 5.1
WD 60GB
Quantum 6GB
LG24x24x32 CDR
WIN2K Pro.

To tell you the truth there is little difference between ME and the 98's its basically a very bad service pack to them :) So what would a good chipset be to consider for my next upgrade, NForce?

I've never used the nForce chipset, but it seems to be very popular around here, and has gotten good reviews.

Or you can go with the Intel 865/875 chipset. They are good as well.
