Question New installed Ethernet driver showing old date

Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask this.

I just downloaded the latest Ethernet driver from intels website. Only the driver not the Proset.

I noticed after installing it that it says the driver is dated for 6/22/2021. In the driver signitures it said February 9th 2022 but the driver according to device manager is dated from almost a year ago.

intel drivers always have older dates and for the life of my I don’t know why. If anyone can shed light on why please do. Tyvm.

the latest driver is the one I downloaded. Windows 10 64bit.

Why are you worried about the date on the driver? Drivers are not like the rest of the software on your system, once you have one that works your done. There is absolutely NO reason to be chasing driver updates unless a newer one addresses a specific issue that you are experiencing with the one you have.

It stems from wanting to keep my drivers up to date and I was having a few ping issues in a couple of games I play the past few days so I thought this might help.

That is the published date of that driver.
They don't update them daily.

There may not be a newer one, and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.

It stems from wanting to keep my drivers up to date and I was having a few ping issues in a couple of games I play the past few days so I thought this might help.

Ping issues could result from your internet speeds, the speed of game servers, etc. Updating a driver is probably not going to fix that.

Date of creation, then several months of testing.

Very likely nothing more than a .inf update to support a new adapter, or, a small site restructuring (happens all the time) that resulted in the time/date stamp on the file changing. The driver works across a multitude of adapters so why change it if it works?

the latest driver is the one I downloaded. Windows 10 64bit.

you need to go to windows control panel, hardware, and find device manager, find the network adapter, right mouse click, select update driver. then find the option to select the driver from the ones on your machine. it says something about let me pick.
it should show the list of drivers on you local machine. I think mine had 12 intel drivers and 2 microsoft drivers. each one is different even though in the listing they look the same.
basically, when you install the setup does not make the driver active, you have to select the new driver manually.

That is true. Just get annoyed when I have ping issues so I jump to conclusions.

@johnbl tyvm for that. I am not touching the driver but I will keep that in mind for the future.

Having newest drivers isn't always best idea. If your drivers work fine now, changing them can make it worse

The only driver i keep up to date is my GPU driver, and only then if its a reasonably new card. Mine is only 2 years old so might still get some advantage out of newer drivers. Older it gets, less likely I will upgrade drivers. If they work, why fix them?

Usually the only driver I keep up to date is my GPU, but I only update it if I see there is a big vulnerability with the driver I have etc. I hate updating any driver because I know something could easily not work like it used to and be extremely annoying.
