Hi I have just gotten Hugh's Net Gen4, I live out in the country and needed a satellite ISP. Everything speed wise is good, but my ping is in the 700s. When my old ISP was in the 100s. I went to speedtest.com, as I tested the ping, the map was up and it said I was in Kansas, when I'm in Wisconsin. Would this just be the server my modem or router is connected to?

Solution
In effect you are in kansas. They just took a very long wire from you to the satellite and back down to the main ISP location which happens to be in kansas. Lets say the ISP was across the street from you. The data would still have to go all the way to the satellite and back down and then go to the speedtest server likely in wisconsin this time. It would still have to travel that huge distance so you would still see huge ping times.

You can't fix this it is a speed of light thing. The signals only travel at some fixed percentage of the speed of light.
try to change the server your connecting to, ping is how long it takes to connect to the internet 700 ping is really bad and speedtest.net is supposed to choose the closest server, thinking your in kansas it probably tested your internet using a server in kansas meaning it was far resulting in a high ping

Is there any idea how to change my connected modem server?
