1. What Is Your Country Of Origin?
USA
2. What do you plan to do with this monitor? (ex. Games, Movie Watching, Photo Editing, etc.)
Games, spreadsheets, movie watching, Mathematica, web surfing, etc., etc.
3. What resolution and screen size do you want?
I am considering either 2560x1440 or 2560x1600, from 27" to 32". I'm currently on an old 1920x1200 24" Planar monitor. It still works well, but I'd like to increase my screen real estate, and I prefer one large monitor to multiple smaller monitors.
4. What refresh rate do you want? (ex. 60 hz , 70 hz.)
Anywhere from 60 Hz to 144 Hz.
5. How much are you looking to spend?
I would like to spend less than $1,000.
6. Brands Preferred (ex. Samsung, Acer, Asus, AOC, HP, Viewsonic, etc. )
I have more or less narrowed my search to Acer, BenQ, and HP.
The models I have been contemplating are: the as yet unreleased Acer XB270HU, BenQ BL3200PT, and the old HP ZR30w (which seems to be available as "new old stock" at some attractive prices).
I recently upgraded my video cards to 2 x GTX 780Ti in SLI. My feeling is that they are going to a bit of waste on my old 1920 x 1200 monitor from ~2006. It is still a nice and functional monitor, but I would like some more desktop space, and I'd like to take advantage of gaming at higher resolutions.
The new Acer XB270HU seems to offer practically everything I could want: 2560x1440, IPS quality, 144 Hz refresh rate, nVidia's G-Sync. That is, IF they become available within a month or two, and IF they aren't immediately sold out for months... My only qualms here are: 1) will the performance and build quality live upto expectations, and 2) I'd actually like the screen a bit bigger than 27" -- I'm not tied to maximizing pixel density.
The BenQ BL3200PT is also tempting: more professional oriented than gaming, but a well balanced monitor with great build quality. I also like the idea of 1440p resolution in a 32" screen size. That seems like a good compromise between sharpness and text legibility. And the contrast ratio and black levels are reported to be great with this monitor. My only main qualm here is with the input lag: I believe it is reported to be in the 3 frame per second region, which I think is OK for casual gaming, but if you are somewhat serious about fast paced games (as I am), I probably won't be happy with that aspect.
The HP ZR30w is interesting because I believe it is a discontinued product but still available as "new old stock" at very reasonable prices. This one gets great reviews for color work and gaming applications. The wide color gamut this monitor offers is actually unnecessary for me, and probably actually somewhat of a drawback since I'm really tied to the sRGB color space. That said, all of the reviews I've read online praise it even for daily use. Apparently the colors can be reasonably tamed through HP's profile for it and using the video card driver settings. And the monitor is fast enough for gaming, and features excellent build quality. I also think I like the 16:10 aspect ratio as what I have been used to: nice for productivity applications.
This actually a pretty difficult decision, and I don't think there are stores where I can see any of them in person, much less compare them side-by-side.
Any suggestions / recommendations? Thanks!
