Hi everyone,
I'm looking for a new monitor and I have around 500/600$ as budget.
It has to mount an IPS panel.
I have this configuration:
MoBo : ASUS H170-Pro Gaming [90MB0MS0-M0EAY0] MB Intel 1151
VGA: Nvidia GTX960 Gigabyte WindForce (GV-N960WF2OC-4GD)
HDD: Western Digital 3,5" 3000GB WD30EFRX 64MB
SSD (x SO): Samsung 950 PRO M2 512GB
Processor: Intel Core i5-6600 Socket 1151 Ci5 Box (3,3GHz)
Ram: Corsair Vengeance LPX 32GB (4x8GB) DDR4 2133 MHz
Monitor: Asus MX279H 1920x1080 /60HZ ( https://www.asus.com/Monitors/MX279H/ )

I use the PC mainly as office use, web programming (not editing), Football Manager, PES ad rarely Total War and Skyrim.

I am confused about 1 thing: is it better a 2K 144hz with G-Sync or a 4K 60hz w/o sync? I think the 1st one, but let me know.
I saw those for now:

Thanks in advance.

Your graphics card would probably struggle with gaming at 2k, nevermind 4k.

4k is well out of range for most people and pretty pointless trying to aim for, even with plenty of money as you'd be upgrading GPU's frequently to keep up with the latest games at a high FPS. 4k is still a gimmick really, just something for the rich to throw their money at.

G-Sync will allow your monitor to be in sync with your Nvidia GPU, so they will be in sync with a lower refresh rate if you can't hit a consistent 144 FPS... but since you listed those games, non of them are really competitive, so you'd probably be fine with a 60hz monitor.

ASUS ROG Swift PG279Q G-SYNC 27" LED 2560 x 1440 2K 165Hz
The LED version appears to be £2000+ so i think you mean the
ASUS ROG SWIFT PG279Q, 27 Inch WQHD (2560 x 1440) Gaming Monitor, IPS, Up to 165 Hz
found here https://www.amazon.com/PG279Q-Displ...+SWIFT+PG279Q&qid=1561244837&s=gateway&sr=8-1

If you upgraded your GPU to something like an "Nvidia GeForce GTX 1660 Ti (6GB)" as recommended by TomsHardware: https://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gpu-hierarchy,4388.html then you'd be fine for 2k. I can't say how much you'd benefit from 60hz to 144hz on those games as i'm still on 60hz, looking to upgrade to something along the lines the ASUS ROG SWIFT PG279Q, 27 Inch WQHD (2560 x 1440) Gaming Monitor, IPS, Up to 165 Hz, just havn't had the money, the reason i'd choose that particular monitor (maybe, still looking) is due to it having one of the lowest overall lag:
lag.png

https://www.tftcentral.co.uk/reviews/gigabyte_aorus_ad27qd.htm
The site i don't find overly easy to navigate and i had to pick the most recent review which showed upto the most recent test.

On that note the Gigabyte Aorus AD27QD 27" 144Hz 1440P FreeSync Gaming Monitor is a seemingly decent monitor (also G-Sync Compatible), found here;

https://www.amazon.com/FreeSync-Monitor-Exclusive-2560x1440-Display/dp/B07MVX3PKS/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_1?keywords=Gigabyte+AORUS+AD27QD-EK+27"&qid=1561245646&s=gateway&sr=8-1-fkmr0

But for me i play FPS games so the lower the overall lag from PC to the image being displayed the better off i'll be, along with the 144hz,. for you, with those games? it matters a whole lot less, but how much of a benefit you'll get i won't know until i've upgraded myself.

Monitor should match GPU capability.
960 is approaching single-digit FPS at 4k in todays games https://www.hexus.net/tech/features...force-gtx-1660-vs-gtx-1060-vs-gtx-960/?page=6
Imagine what it will be like in 3 years.
For 4k 60 fps, something like 1080Ti or 2080, minimum. Even then, you might have to lower details in some games.
I have a 2k monitor and Vega 56 is fine for that in most games. Freesync 75Hz. Now, I can't run all games at 75 fps.
So GPU would have to be better in order to do that.

PES and Football manager arent that demanding on GPU. At least not last I tried. Total War and Skyrim are more CPU-bound if I recall correctly. Skyrim I'm sure of. In PES 2017, my GPU is idling pretty much. I doubt the graphics have been much upgraded in newer versions.

2k 60 fps: Vega 56/64 and probably upcoming AMD 5700/XT
Nvidia 2070 or better

4k 60fps: 2080 or 2080Ti

A 1080P monitor which you have is a lot easier to drive for a GPU. 960 is still not ideal, it's very old and poor perf.
Have you considered dual monitors? 2k-4k for Office/programming and 1080p for games? Maybe not practical.

But I have to say Freesync is awesome. I haven't tried Gsync so can't comment on that. I would definitely include Adaptive sýnc (Freesync/Gsync) as a must in a monitor below 100Hz/FPS.

don't bother with 4K resolution - as explained above due to your existing 960 GPU plus due to diminishing size for that resolution.
32" 4K monitors are too small to use without scaling.

27" 4K ? Wasted. Even for games. You are just making your life more complicated (GPU not enough) and expensive (wasted money).
