Hi, this question has probably been asked a billion times before, but if I get a new motherboard with the same socket as my current one, will I need to purchase anything else? Or can I use my current CPU with the new motherboard? (So long as it has the same chipset and socket?)
Thank you.

Well if it's a new motherboard for a older CPU then you should have no issues but to update the BIOS that can be done through the motherboards manufacturer's website but don't do it unless you absolutely have to. There's always a very small chance a BIOS update can brick your motherboard.

Oh no I meant, would I update the BIOS for the new motherboard after it's been installed and my PC is up and running (if it gets to that stage lol), or should I download it ahead of time and put it on a USB stick and do it that way instead?

What cpu are we talking about anyways.... chances are the board newer and all already have the most recent bios updates on them, therefore more than likely support your CPU, that much would not be said about the latest 7th gen cpu and H100 boards for example

I wouldn't update it, just put the CPU in and you should be fine, as The Paladin stated it would have a newer BIOS anyways.
