I just got a brand new motherboard to replace my old stock MSI motherboard. The board i got is an Asus ROG Crosshair Formula Z. my stock mobo was fine, i just wanted to upgrade so i could SLI my GPU and to upgrade it in general. I just got it and so last night i put it in and so i took out all my components(GPU, RAM, CPU liquid cooler, CPU) and unplugged everything and i unscrewed the board and took it out, took the IO plate out, put the new mobo IO plate in and then the motherboard itself in, screwed it in with my stock mobo standoffs and some screws i had lying around. put everything back in component-wise and the front panel connectors in and the motherboard lights like the start and reset button and an aesthetic light down at the bottom left of the board light up but it literally does NOTHING. a while after i had things put in it did a little flicker of life and i did random troubleshooting but it did pretty much nothing. The next day(this afternoon), I tried some more troubleshooting and my friend tried helping me and none of his ideas worked. i made sure the CPU pins were ok, i made sure it was lined up to the arrow on the socket, i reseated the pump for my corsair liquid cooler, i made sure the 24 pin, the cpu 8 pin and the other random 4 pin by the memory slots were in, i found out the front power, reset button connectors were in the wrong spot so i connected them to the right spot and i took out the bios battery thing(whatever it does) for a minute or two and after all of this nothing has changed whatsoever. The lights still light up but it doesn't flicker like it did. Im not sure why but this is really frustrating me so the sooner the solution the better.
- Thank you

Solution
Yep, that way you know it works, when it goes in the case if there's a problem it's generally related to the install in the case, (missed standoff, screw, shorting on the case or plate
Here are my system specs if need be.
CPU: AMD 8320
CPU Cooler: Corsair H80I GT
GPU: Geforce 980
RAM: 16 gb
HDD: 1 Tb, 2 Tb, SSD for boot
PSU: Corsair RMX1000 W
new mobo put in: Asus Crosshair V Formula Z
OLD MOBO: MSI (i forgot the name but i can find it if you need to know it)

If you left the system plugged into the wall.
And did not turn the rocker switch off on the back of the power supply unit.

Please re set the power supply unit and any power protection circuits that may of triggered.

To do this turn the rocker switch on the back of the power supply unit to it`s other state.

Turn off the wall socket the power supply cable is connected to for the PSU.
Remove the plug from the wall for ten seconds.
Then plug it back in, turning the switch on at the wall socket.

Now return the rocker switch on the back of the power supply unit back to its original position.
And press the power button on your tower to see if a reset of the power supply.
Allows the system to power up normally.

Any former problem to do with power will invoke the power supply to activate it`s power protection features, and will prevent the power supply unit from providing normal power to the system until the problem is resolved. Anything such as a short circuit of the motherboard where it has been mounted badly and a brass standoff may be toughing a back side of the motherboard causing a short. because it exists where no pass though screw hole exits.

Also check that if the motherboard uses a set of pins to reset the bios of the motherboard, and are jumpered that the bios and jumper pin is set to the correct setting of bridged pins, so the bios is enabled for normal operation.

If set to a constant bios reset mode the board will not fully power up or post.

I tried what you said with the power supply and the wall socket and that didn't do anything. I tried starting it up with the front power button and the motherboard start button and still nothing. And as far as i know it didn't come with any pins. the only thing that has pins are this pin blocks for the front connectors and the usb connector. It goes on the motherboard pins and then the front panel wires connect to it. I put those on just to see as far as a difference and still nothing. It did come with an accessory box with the user guide, those 2 pin blocks, sata cable, cables ties, sli and crossfire bridges, a usb to usb rog cable for updating bios or something like that and a door hanger.

Well i have found the majority of the problem. It was the gosh dang standoffs. i have dealt with everything in a computer except motherboards so i guess it wasn't grounding right or shorting somewhere. So i did what you said, i took out the mobo, set it on the box it came in, took out my power supply and connected it to the wall and to the 24 pin only and hit the start button on the mobo and it started just fine and the debug led thing actually started going for the first time. so with that i came to the conclusion that it was the standoffs so the next day i got some more to fill the remaining slots and i thought it was fine but it still has some gosh dang issue. Originally it started up practically shut off instantly. eventually after i checked the connections(24 pin, 8 pin and 4 pin) it kept running for a few and still no beep. Now it pretty much starts up for maybe a second then shuts off. My friend has said just google it and its pretty much getting me no where. I have tried taking out both ram sticks(i have 2 8 gb sticks for 16 gb total), taking out my geforce 980 gpu, using my old Radeon HD 6670 gpu, taking out the bios battery and pretty much trying everything and it still not working properly. The only sign of life past the boot is, i have 3 monitors with different connectors. I tried hooking up the display cables to see if anything was coming up and the asus loading screen and from what it looked like, the bios came up but it wasn't up long enough that i could see and it just shut off on its own. It has had the f.f code on the debug led panel on the mobo but yea. I sure do appreciate all the help and i just hope i can get it running properly as soon as.

i tried that and it started, no beep and showed the asus loading screen for a second, a screen saying "push del or f2 for bios" or something along that line and it went to a bios looking screen(idk if it was bios or not) and i was gonna try to take a picture of it but it went away and turned off like instantly. scimming through or trying to see any errors, it said something about fan error and im not sure what fan would be an issue. the only fans in my system are the 2 fans for my corsair H80I gt push pull cooler, the front led fan and a case fan that is not hooked up at the time. unless its thinking the pump for the cooler is a fan. Should i try to re seat the cooler or what next?

I had it out of my case on the box it came in and i took my power supply out and i connected the 24 pin and it started up and the debug led came on and im not sure if it beeped or not, probably not if all i had connected was the 24 pin but yea. Should i do that and keep adding stuff and plugging stuff in until it beeps or starts and fully boots? And hey im sorry if whatever i ask isn't smart, this is just the first time i have ever dealt with the motherboard itself, but i am familiar with everything else pretty much. I appreciate it.

Ok man, i will try that and i will get back to you as soon as i get results. It may be later or tomorrow(its currentley 9:06 pm for me) And just to add, if it helps with anything, i tried to get the menu to come back and i got a picture of the 2 screens it gave me. One was the Asus logo with "republic of gamers" below it and at the bottom it said "please press DEL or F2 to enter UEFI BIOS setting" and the next screen it went to had American Megatrends at the top and it had
UEFIBIOS (C) 2012 American Megatrends, Inc.
Asus Crosshair V Formula Z ACPI BIOS Revision 2201
total memory: 16368mb (DDR3-1333)
USB devices total: 0 drive, 0 keyboard, 0 mouse, 0 hub

SATA port2: TSSTcorp CDDCDW SH-224DB
SATA port5: WDC WD2003FZEX-00Z4SA00

Please enter setup to recover BIOS setting.
CPU fan error!
No keyboard detected!
Press F1 to run SETUP

and thats all that said. i didn't have a keyboard or anything hooked up just for the test boot and my cpu fan is the water pump for my Corsair H80I GT liquid CPU cooler

But i will try the bench still, i appreciate it man.
