Hi all ,

I currently have an 970, i7 2700k and 8 gb Ram i cant remember the exact spec of motherboard but it is a gigabyte motherboard.

Everytime i start my PC up since i put my new GPU in it has taken at least a full minute to boot up, before with my old gpu it was on within 20 seconds.

I have 3 questions-
Should i save up and buy a i7 4790k or wait for skylake is the performance and price going to be worth the difference?
What kind of motherboard should i look at would an msi one be beneficial as this is my 970 brand? I dont know a lot about what the benefits of higher priced motherboards are please can someone fill me in?
Finally when windows 10 is released if i have 7 currently as an oem will i not be able to upgrade for free if i swap out motherboards? Should i wait for the release of 10 and buy it for the new motherboard ? I am unfamiliar with how this works.

Most of the time gaming will be used and maybe in the future video editing.
Thankyou, any feedback is appreciated.

Well, the 2700k is still a very capable cpu, and I see no reason in upgrading, unless you are very unhappy with its gaming performance. Did you completely uninstall your old gpu drivers when you got your new card? How long has it been since you reinstalled windows? as windows installations tend to get slower over time. Do you have a lot of start up programs? Have you overclocked your system? Whats the rest of your specs? PSU, RAM etc.

The 2700 is still a decent cpu, if you were to upgrade then you should wait for skylake.
There is no performance/compatibility difference of having the same brand of motherboard and gpu.
Technically if you change your motherboard you cant reinstall windows 7, with that said, 90% of the time if you call Microsoft activation and talk to a human and tell them your motherboard died they will give you a key to activate it. Then you can still upgrade to windows 10.
I don't know if it is still on sale but newegg in usa had win 7 home premium for $70 if you just wanted to buy it now; its a gamble as to what Microsoft will charge for windows 10 at its release.

My motherboard is confirmed as Gigabyte- GA- H61MA-D2V, my case is Antec two hundred i think, the GPU only just fits so will probably get a new case.
PSU- OCZ ZS/5 SERIES 750 W
RAM - not sure on exact specs i took picture and has the words Elite and then team so i assume its elite team ram, Not sure on speed but would suspect its the average of 1600mhz.

My step-father previously built my pc so i don't know a lot about it but want to, the i7 is clocked at 3.9 and maximum temp is mid 70's while GPU is maximum high 60's.

I think i uninstalled or the drivers how can i check effectively?
I haven't reinstalled windows since i got it but the change started as soon as i swapped gpu, i thought it would have something to do with my motherboard being too slow for my gpu lol.
On startup i have Kaspersky, Nvidia Control panel, Iobit protection for malware, advanced health care, Hola, Razer support.
It is slow when the motherboard picture is displayed mainly, it hangs for like a minute before starting windows.

Those OCZ power supplies were never that good. The GPU plus the overclock could be the cause. Try removing the overclock and see if that fixes the problem.

That Team Elite ram is also not that good, but should not be the source of the problem. Do check under task manager or system to make sure it still recognizes all of your ram though.

Oh, thought my components were pretty good well my PSU has lasted several years since i got the i7 but if this is the case maybe i should save up until i can afford cpu motherboard, ram and new psu....what components would you suggest at a reasonable price but still good quality. What good Cases are there as well in case i may wish to sli in the future?

I dont quite know where to start thats my issue, i get £330 a month minus 78 for utilities so yeah.
