Say if I wanted to get a new motherboard, do I just take the old one out then connect everything to the new one and it just starts working or is it more complex than that?

I have the motherboard that came with the Lenovo k450e I purchased. I have upgraded everything but the motherboard so far. What decently priced motherboard would you recommend that is good with the i7 4790k?

It's pretty much that simple, yeah. Just make sure you have a copy of your Windows key, because windows may consider a new motherboard a new computer, so your windows may be deactivated which means you will have to reactivate it.

The 4790k is LGA 2011? I thought it was 1150.

Your copy of windows just won't be considered genuine, but you can still boot and and enter your key.
