Hello people!
Everytime I google for answers about hardware, I always end up here..
So I might as well join up and ask you about my planned build..
It's a dedicated music-pc, so it won't be connected to the internet..
The one I have right now:
CPU: Pentium 4 - 3,9GHz (overclocked 3,7)
RAM: 4GB (1x4)
HDD:
1 - 200GB (OS and software only)
2 - 300GB (Projects and audio only)
3 - 300GB (Samples and random crap)
Soundcard: M-Audio 1010LT
Graphics card: Nvidia Geforce 7800
Win XP (32bit)
It's been killing my inspiration.. I need something new!
I'll be doing this build in two parts, ordering half now, and the rest next month..
This the plan so far:
MoBo: MSI Z77A-G43 ATX
CPU: Intel Core i5 3570K 3,4Ghz (Ivy Bridge) (considered getting the cheaper 3450 IvyB)
RAM: 16GB (4x4 or 2x8)
HDD:
1 - Samsung SSD Basic 830-Series 128GB (OS and software only, also a couple of sample libraries)
2 - 500GB Western Digital RE4 (Projects and audio only)
3 - The old 300GB to use for backup and random crap
4 - Will use 4GB RAM as a drive, leaving 10GB RAM for use
(5 - Will add a SSD dedicated to samples later this year)
Soundcard: The 1010LT I already have
Graphics card: KFA2 GeForce G210 1024MB Passivt
PSU: be quiet! Pure Power L7 430W 80+ Bronze
Win 7 Pro (64Bit)
Also: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO (CPU cooler)
I'll probably OC to 4GHz, seems like a stable clocking.
The case I'll be getting is a NXT Source Elite SE (3 case fans), might change though..
Also getting 2 or 3 extra case fans..

I'm planning on getting the case + fans + cooler + graphics card + PSU (and maybe the HDD), this month.
Next month I'll get the Mobo + CPU + RAM + SSD..
I really hope it will be a big improvement to what I have now..
Was considering AMD Bulldozer (suits my non-existent budget better), but it seems the reviews aren't that good.. :/
Do I need the graphics card? I'm using 2 monitors with the Geforce 7800.. but I'll have to get a new one.. maybe the onboard graphics will do?
Think I can get away with a 60GB SSD? I'm not using a lot of space right now, although it's XP..
I might play some games, but it's not really important..
The WD RE4 HDD is Sata-II, I wanted a Sata-III for recording, but I need a reliable one and I haven't found a Sata-III HDD that seems reliable.. :/
Any improvements or thoughts are welcome..
