Bad day for me, My notebook was stolen. I loved my notebook. Fast, Reliable.
Specs:
Dell D830, 1920x1200 display, T7500 CPU, 4 GB DDR2 667 Ram, 250 GB 7200 RPM Hard disk, Nvidia Quadro Graphics. WWAN, BT, all that .
All that being said, I need a new one - no insurance coverage. high display resolution is a requirement as I do some photo / PDF work, and really like the real estate to have several things going at once.. I can live with integrated video as I do not game other than old school stuff like NWN2 or Ultima Online. (yeah, i am aging myself with that one but I loved it)

no, I dont want a 16-inch or larger unless I can get something really reasonable to offset lugging an aircraft carrier around.

and when I say reasonable, I cannot spend 1500 bucks and up on a notebook.

Hi there,

What about the Dell Studio 15? It has a fast processor, 4 GB of RAM, and 500 GB of hard drive space. It is also super affordable at $649. The 15.6" screen is a nice size and it only weighs 5.5 lbs.

Hi there,

Check out the HP ProBook 5310m. It has a higher resolution screen and can support up to 4 GB of RAM. It's a great value, and it is also super portable with a 13.3" screen. Do you have a specific screen size in mind?

Basicly would prefer 15 or so, due to the fact that when you have a display at 1080 or better the pixels get really tiny. I looked at Dell first as I have sold about 30 if them to my users in the last year alone, at least 100 in the last three, but I cannot get where I am going within reason. I guess my requirements put me in a professional class. I looked at an "outlet" 830, but even going there with a two to three year old chassis i end up over 1200.00..
I was really not prepared for this at this time I guess..

Hi,

Are you using any websites to look for your new notebook? You should check out PC Scout. You just enter the specs you want (such as screen size, RAM, budget, etc.) and it will produce recommendations for you: http://www.microsoft.com/Windows/pc-scout/laptop-set-criteria.aspx?mode=landing#. Take a look and let me know if you find anything!

Research has let me to the conclusion that there is no answer to this one. the "configurators" keep directing me to units with 900 (hd+) or lower resolution, and no luck picking one out that will work with out spending big money- so I guess I am asking for too much.
any other suggestions?
1. hi resolution display- x1080 minimum. prefer x1200.
2. hard disk size, audio, blue ray, not important.
3. screen size 14-16.
4. price ceiling of 1k
5. 4+ gb ram for VM.
6. integrated video ok- not a gamer.

all the configurators keep sending me to notebooks with low res displays- I finally ended up getting a Dell Vostro with x900 display and will just resell it when I get some more money - the cheapest thing I have found that looks good is about 1500 -1700 out the door- and I cannot go there right now.
i5 cpu, 1gb Nvidia GT330, 1600x900 display, 500 gb hdd, 4 gb ram, Bluetooth, DVDRW,- 729 plus tax.
