New OCZ Agility 4 Recognised by BIOS but not by Windows

Hello everyone, hoping you can help me out here.

I just bought a new OCZ Agility 4 SSD to replace the old HDD in my laptop, and I'm having trouble installing W7 on it. I can find the drive in the BIOS but the W7 installer won't recognise the disk. I have also plugged it into a desktop computer running Windows Vista, where I get the same results: I find it in BIOS but not in DSKMGMT or in the W7 installer.

At first I thought it was because the disk was unformatted, and that if I managed to format it to NTFS the installer would find it, but now I'm not so sure. Also now that DSKMGMT can't find it, I'm kind of at a loss as what to try next.

Mine is actually the S06SE version but it seems to have the same specifications (I'm assuming the difference is just what country it was sold in?), and I'm having trouble finding the specs for my specific version online, even the Samsung page does not show specs: http://www.samsung.com/se/support/model/NP-RC530-S06SE. The mainboard is Samsung made, simply called RC530/RC730. Both chipset and Southbridge is Intel made.

Really hoping someone can give me a clue as to what to do, cause this little 2.5" rectangle has me stumped.

your laptop might have older sata 150 interface (1.5gig) and your ssd is sata 300 or 600. try changing jumper on the ssd to make it work with older sata and that might do the trick

Well since SATA is backwards compatible I don't really think this is the problem, but yes, I guess I could try changing it.

What does the BIOS show the drive as?

Maybe the drive has to be initialized first before installing Windows. To do this you connect it as a secondary drive and open up disk management, then chose the disk and select initialize drive. I had to do this before when a mechanical drive would not show up after being connected.

BIOS shows the drive as an Agility 4 SSD 256 GB drive...so pretty much exactly what it's supposed to show it as. I can select it in Boot Order, check how much memory it has, even Override boot to it. Problem is nothing BUT the BIOS seems to recognise it, not even the OCZ Bootable Toolbox.

Well this unfortunately doesn't really help me, seeing how I can't actually see the drive in disk management. 🙁

I got the same issue with my 128GB Agility 4 drive. I format it atleast 4-5 times then later had to do a firmware update, which takes it to 1.51 or something since it was on 1.4 Then the installation went flawless and booted fine. But there's a catch, I have to have the old HDD along with it to boot otherwise it wont boot and get a boot error as if the drive isn't even there.

I still dont know what the heck is going on. But updating the firmware will help to install win.
