Question New PC - 4060ti/7700xt

Hello guys, I am building my new PC and I have questions about gpu, specially if Its better to buy 4060ti or 7700xt (I read that 4060ti is a joke). I saw a lot of benchmarks and I know, that 7700xt is better in native and almost same in RT as 4060ti. But I need something that last longer on modern games.

Storage: SSD Samsung 980 PRO 1TB

Right now the 7700XT is faster than the 4060Ti 16GB. The 12GB VRAM will probably be good in non RT games at 1440p for a while. The 4060Ti 16GB starts at $450 and against the 7700XT at 1440p is 20% slower in rasterization gaming but 10% faster in RT. The other option would be the 7800XT which has 16GB VRAM and the Sapphire Pulse is currently $520. It is faster than the 4060Ti across the board. In 1440p rasterization gaming against the 4060Ti it has a 40% lead and 6% lead in RT gaming. The added VRAM will make sure that 1440p gaming will still be smooth for a while or being able to increase settings and not run out of RAM. The only question is the value of the 7800XT against the 7700XT as the 15% increase in price from the 4060Ti > 7800XT is easily outweighed by the 40% performance increase. The 7800XT is about 20% faster on average in rasterization gaming and 16% faster in RT gaming compared to the 7700XT at 1440p. The cheapest 7700XT goes for $419 which is 24% cheaper than the 7800XT Sapphire Pulse. You would be getting close to 1:1 performance percentage increase per cost percentage increase plus 16GB VRAM instead. Therefore if it is in the budget IMO the 7800XT is the best buy followed by the 7700XT.

In my country 7800xt costs 615 $ and 4060ti 16gb and 7700xt is same at 530 $. With 7700xt is my budget at max, but if I buy lower CPU for example Intel Core i5-13400F I can afford 7800xt. So question is if i5 14600KF is not too much for 7700xt/7800xt ?

If gaming is your primary use case you will usually be better suited for a faster GPU over CPU. While using a 4090 in benchmarks the 14600K is 35% faster on average than the 13400 at 1440p. Changing to a slower GPU narrow that gap quite a bit. I am still running an i7-4770k but with a 6700XT GPU and in Red Dead 2 at 3440x1440 ultra with FSR2 I average 82.4 FPS.

There are also other ways in which you could fit these things into your budget. Going with a Ryzen 7600X, while still lower absolute performance than the 14600K is only a 14% drop with a 4090, could save money. Changing from an NZXT 280 AIO to a standard air cooler can save a lot. For example the 14600K is only drawing 139W in multi-threaded y-cruncher AVX. That is a lot easier to cool than the >200W i7's and i9's. Getting something like the Deepcool AG620 or the Deepcool Assassin IV could save $100 or more over the Kraken 280. Going with CL36 or even keeping the CL32 but not getting RGB can save $20+. IMO going with the Assassin IV and non RGB RAM is the way to go to save the money to keep the 14600k AND get the 7800XT. That is if these things are available in your country.

Keep an eye out. I’m in the USA but the 7800xt runs about $500 here. The older 6800xt had similar performance and is still around $500, but sometimes goes on sale. For example I got one last week for $439. So as you are looking, look at the older 6800 and 6800 xt cards as you may catch a bargain and find they are better than the cards you are looking at.

Between the two you listed however, 7700xt hands down if you want the card to last longer.
