Hello, I recently built a pc, everything works fine, I played for hours and stresstested all parts, temperatures are fine, voltages are fine, I have a 9800X3D CPU and a 9070 XT GPU.

On the board however I noticed that there's a 8 pin PCIe power connector labeled "PWR1". The manual is unclear as to what its purpose is but it says all power slots must be populated to ensure stable use.

I assume it is some auxiliary power in case of multi gpu usage, but as I am not sure, here I am to seek guidance.

I have left it unpopulated atm, since I do not have the pcie cables avaiable.

If you look back about a decade when multi GPu setups were a thing, you'd see these connectors providing supplemental power to the PCIe slots when you were pursuing high overclocks on the discrete GPU while in a multi GPU setup. If you're working with one discrete GPU, you need not worry about that connector/input, so long as your EPS connectors are hooked up.

Yea that is my mobo.
I assumed that it was for extra power for multiple gpu/heavy oc, but I wanted to make sure.

The motherboard already has 2x8 cpu pins and a 1x24 general connector.. I am baffled at how much power this thing supposedly ""needs"".
