Hello,

I’m currently building a new gaming PC for someone who plays modern games like Assassin’s Creed and Doom (latest versions). Here is the proposed build:
  • Case: be quiet! Pure Base 500 Black
  • Motherboard: ASUS TUF Gaming B650-PLUS WIFI
  • CPU: Ryzen 7 7800X3D
  • CPU Cooling: Arctic Freezer 36
  • Graphics Card: Sapphire Pulse Radeon RX 9070 XT
  • Power Supply: Corsair RM850x (2024 model)
  • Memory: G.Skill Flare X5 F5-6000J3040G32GX2-FX5
  • Fans: Arctic P14 PWM PST Value Pack, 140mm (5 pieces)
  • Storage: Samsung 990 Pro with heatsink, 2TB
The total cost for this build is around €2000.
The person I’m building this PC for does not need an AIO CPU cooler.

Would this system be good for gaming at 4K resolution, or do you recommend any changes? Perhaps 32GB of RAM would be enough instead of 64GB?

I would really appreciate your advice since there are so many options available for PC components nowadays, and I want to make sure everything works well together in the system.

On face value, the build looks fine but I'd look at a beefy air cooler, like something from Thermalright or get a 360mm AIO. Ram looks fine as it's meant for AMD's AM5 platform. I would add a smaller capacity SSD preferably 500GB for the OS, app's and launchers while the larger SSD is meant to be your game library drive.

You're advised to stylize your thread with info asked of in this thread;
and the community will chime in with worthwhile suggestions.

Thanks for the reply. I will update the first post. I was already considering the be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 5 and Noctua NH-D15S Chromax Black for CPU cooling. The person I'm building the PC for doesn't want an AIO.

.....................................................WARNING:
The MSI MAG B650 TOMAHAWK WIFI ATX AM5 Motherboard supports the AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D 4.7 GHz 8-Core Processor with BIOS version 7D75v1L. If the motherboard is using an older BIOS version, updating the BIOS will be necessary to support the CPU.

DOA Corsair branded products are excellent and failures are far and few between.
the Corsair RM850x I purchased for a new build in January this year was indeed DOA, ie it failed the jumper test. It happens, however very disappointing.

Here's a few cost cutters.

This recent generation of AMD and Nvidia cards support PCIe 5.0 so I would look at a board that supports PCIe 5.0 for the video card.

If you want DLSS then swap out that card up above with this one.

9800x3d is not that important in 4K
(especially if not running the high end graphics cards like rtx 4090 or 5090)
the differences between modern CPUs
are getting smaller as the resolution increases ,
RTX 5070Ti has a slightly better set of features for 4K resolution
compared to 9070xt in my opinion
(both are not exactly 4K cards but rather excellent 1440p cards ,
but the 5070Ti is able to handle higher resolution slightly better with its features)
i also added more memory since 2x16gb can already be constraining , especially
if you like to have other stuff open/running in the background while gaming .

there are slightly cheaper models of rtx 5070Ti out there ,
but asus prime runs more quiet compared to some cheaper models
and it also has quiet bios preset .

This would be more FPS at 4k than all the above builds. At 4k you could go as far as saying that a 7800X3D over something like a 9600x is a waste of money with your budget for 4k gaming, unless you play some very specific SIM, and or RTS games. That extra 150 euro with some other smart part selections can get you a 5080 instead.

Thanks for the advice. I’ve found a few available GPU options:
  • Radeon RX 9070 XT
  • GeForce RTX 5080
  • GeForce RTX 5070 Ti
And several CPU options:
  • AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D
  • AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D
  • AMD Ryzen 7 9700X
  • AMD Ryzen 5 9600X
I'm able to increase the budget a bit — the total is now € 2500.

Based on the benchmarks, the GeForce RTX 5080 seems to offer the best performance. However, I’m not sure if the extra cost is justified, as the performance gain over cheaper alternatives appears to be quite small.

I have the same concern when comparing the Ryzen 7 9800X3D with the 7800X3D. Or perhaps the Ryzen 7 9700X or even the Ryzen 5 9600X might be the better value, depending on the overall balance of performance and price.

That said, I want the system to be future-proof, so I’m willing to spend a bit more now if it means better long-term performance and longevity.

My recommendation would not change much. You could double the RAM for 90 euros or so, add on another 2-4tb of NVMe storage, or even jump to a 9800X3D. Diminishing returns past what is in the build below start to kick in pretty hard. More than 32gb of RAM would definitely be useful if you plan on keeping the PC for more than just a couple years. With just a couple dozen browser tabs, discord, and a game open I have been able to cap out 32gb of system RAM in some of the latest titles. The 5080 Super may be coming out soon enough, and I would speculate that would be a much better long term buy compared to the 5080. Cheers.
